Bid, I think what you may be perceiving is propaganda-like rhetoric, which can be so distorted as to be dishonest, with its selective citing of facts, taking things out of context, etc., as well as outright lying.

Incidentally, Olbermann gets on my nerves, too, and I'm not a conservative.

Yea I know the difference. That being said trying to convince the world that the competition is the devil is petty. All of them now have such big egos that they are just trying to convince you they are right, and the other guy sucks. In some ways I guess that's the job of a commentator, but it has gotten to the point where the amount of facts are thin, critical thinking what the hell is that, and the other guy sucks. Just a bunch of blowhards. I guess that's what brings in the ratings now.

Just wondering if this is the real and total truth behind suspending him. During the summer Oberman was giving the execs at MSNBC a hard time and his reputation around the station was not among the highest. It could have been a combination of things and this came along and the execs jumped on it.

KIETH OLBERMAN RETURNS!!!
Says Thanks for the Tweets

In a statement released Sunday evening, Phil Griffin, president of msnbc television, said he had deliberated about Olbermann’s status for several days. “I have determined that suspending Keith through and including Monday night's program is an appropriate punishment for his violation of our policy,” Griffin said. “We look forward to having him back on the air Tuesday night.

On his own Twitter account, Olbermann broke his silence about the suspension on Sunday. “Greetings From Exile! A quick, overwhelmed, stunned THANK YOU for support that feels like a global hug & obviously left me tweetless XO,” he wrote. The anchor was likely referring to an online petition calling for his immediate reinstatement, run by the Progressive Change Campaign Committee, exceeded 250,000 signatures.

Guess what? - Sweeps Month!

When doing a little search to verify this, one of the first hits started out:

"If there's an available television stunt out there, you'll probably see it happen in the next few weeks."

Like giving Keith Olberman a long weekend?
Yeah. Like that.

Yeah. Like that.

If you actually watched the show (which I know you don't), you'd know that Olbermann has taken much time off and longer than a weekend. Laurence O'Donnell got a lot of airtime as temporary host for several months before getting his own show. Part of that had to do with Olbermann's father passing away (which ironically was around a "sweeps month" too so I guess that was a publicity stunt in your mind as well). The other being that Laurence O'Donnell was well respected for his political views since he was actually a member of Congress at one time.

Besides, if you actually knew anything about "sweeps month" you'd know that these are primarily used to calculate the amount of viewership to help networks decide on the amount of money they can charge for commercial sponsorships. It's not necessarily used to determine which shows stay or go off the air. If that was the case and it was just a publicity stunt as you now claim (which didn't even last longer than 48-72 hours of an entire month so it didn't even have any long standing impact), considering that Faux gets higher nighttime ratings that MSNBC every pundit on the network would be replaced on a regular basis. But they're not. In fact, their nighttime lineup (with the exception of adding O'Donnell to the lineup) has remained the same for the last few years. Kinda tells you that they're not too concerned with being the #1 network, eh? - Nielsen ratings - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

You're the king of concocting phony conspiracy theories, Pitbull. For once can you base something on actual fact & reality around here?

Correct on that one.
I don't watch Fox or MSNBC period.
Food Network and a good Football Game covers my use of the Idiot Box.

If you actually watched the show (which I know you don't), you'd know that Olbermann has taken much time off and longer than a weekend.

Suspended Friday. Off today (Monday) and back on the air Tuesday.
That is a long weekend for people who work for a living.

Well, LIKE DUH!
My point exactly.
Suspend him for a few days
Make the news
Get all his supporters rallying.

Guess what?
More people will watch Tuesday night to see what he says.
(Check Neilson since you have the link and are such a big numbers guy)
So their ratings go up and they charge their advertisers more.
The network (& Olberman whose paycheck is related to those pesky ratings) hope they can hold on to those viewers for more than one night.
(They might have a chance with better content)

Hard for you to comprehend that such a left wing propaganda machine like MSNBC is actually a business that tries to turn a profit.
Its just another big fucking corporation.
And it is behaving like one.

Kinda tells you that they're not too concerned with being the #1 network, eh? - Nielsen ratings - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Well I guess if their goal is NOT to be #1, they are an overwhelming success.

Olberman is MSNBC's top rated show. And Greta Van Susteren beats him in a later hour! Embarrassing.

You're the king of concocting phony conspiracy theories, Pitbull. For once can you base something on actual fact & reality around here?

A "conspiracy" that a business might try to increase its profits.
Unheard of!

Since you have trouble when you read my posts taking 2 + 2 and coming up with 4, just ask and I'll explain it for you.

Which makes your suggestions about what could be going on with MSNBC null and void. But I know that won't shut you up so go on and embarrass yourself.

No shit, Sherlock. You don't need to have a job to know this. However, please don't imply that I don't have one. You should know better what that will lead to.

Well, LIKE DUH!
My point exactly.
Suspend him for a few days

Please... if they wanted to make a bigger impact, he would have been suspended for a LONGER period of time. That would have allowed the news organizations, pundits (and the "employed" who love to dream up conspiracy theories) more time for the info to fester. This came by and went so quickly it was like nothing really happened. Besides, his show doesn't even air on the weekends.

Guess what?
More people will watch Tuesday night to see what he says.

No they won't. MSNBC will still have the same ratings as before. Again, look at the track record. When it comes to cable television news ratings, Faux has always been on top (considering that they're the only network that panders to the right). This will do nothing substantial to MSNBC's ratings because people who watch the network (unlike yourself) will do so regardless of who is doing the hosting. Hence why Laurence O'Donnell was so successful at maintaining the ranks during Olbermann's extended absence earlier this year that he now has his own show.

(Check Neilson since you have the link and are such a big numbers guy)

It was a Wikipedia link, and I don't give two shits about Nielson ratings.
But I am about the numbers because it dispels the bullshit that is spread by hyper-cynics such as yourself. Kinda hard to argue against mathematics, eh?

Hard for you to comprehend that such a left wing propaganda machine like MSNBC is actually a business that tries to turn a profit.

Now implying that I'm stupid? Fuck off, son. I'm in the entertainment industry. You don't know this shit like I do. Everyone's in it for a profit, but for how much? That's the thing you don't seem to grasp. MSNBC has been content to move along with the same roster (with very little changes) for years even though they have not been able to get the number one spot in cable news ratings. That should be your clue that although a company is after a profit, they're not so money hungry that they'd do anything (and say anything) to make it happen.

Alas, you can't comprehend that some people in this nation aren't as fuckin' greedy as you.

Well I guess if their goal is NOT to be #1, they are an overwhelming success.
http://tvbythenumbers.com/2010/11/05/cable-news-ratings-for-thursday-november-4-2010/71003

Olberman is MSNBC's top rated show. And Greta Van Susteren beats him in a later hour! Embarrassing.

And Adult Swim beats the both of them. What does that say about our Nation?
Besides, MSNBC doesn't need television ratings as most people who get news from that source do it online. That's reflected in unique web hits and links on monthly website tallies all the time. Here's the latest results - Top 15 Most Popular News Websites

Faux is 8th on that list. CNN & MSNBC are #2 and #3 respectfully. Even the Huffington Post (which isn't even a television network) lists higher than Faux. Which kinda tells me that people who want liberal news are more savvy in obtaining it, whereas most Faux viewers are scared of technology and would rather plan their lives around the television set like if an episode of "My Three Sons" and the "Laurence Welk Hour" still airs. Kinda explains why they're able to get a lot of the old people to believe the nonsense about Health Care Legislation, eh? And if you want me to really twist the facts, it kinda explains why there's a problem with obesity in the Southern States where they primarily vote Conservative. Guess you have to watch something on TV while eating that big plate of food, eh?

With all of the times I've decimated the "television ratings" argument around here, Lord only knows why you'd be stupid enough to bring it up AGAIN. Try something else, OK?

A "conspiracy" that a business might try to increase its profits.
Unheard of!

No... a conspiracy theory dreamed up by an idiot such as yourself because for some reason you still can't seem to grasp that some people don't think your political views are what we should be following. WOW, completely unheard of!!

Since you have trouble when you read my posts taking 2 + 2 and coming up with 4, just ask and I'll explain it for you.

I already did. Now, when you're done with your elementary math homework you can come sit at the table with the rest of the adults, OK?

If he had decent ratings MS would have looked the other way.

WR

Actually his ratings are excellent as are Rachel Maddow's . Which is especially good for Keith b/c he is opposite of BILL O'REILLY the moderate Republican in his time slot on Faux news .

Democracy prevails the great liberal voice returns !

MSNBC has an organizational problem which it needs to confront. A cable news network should not rotate its on-air personalities between "anchor" positions, which by definition makes them journalists since they do on-air interviews, cover non-scripted breaking news, etc., (they're not simply "news readers") and "commentator" positions which interpret or otherwise subjectively anaylze topical news--usually political in nature.

MSNBC has a history of moving its people between these two completely different broadcast genres--to the detriment of its own "journalistic integrity." (A breach of integrity far more egregious than Oberman's, IMHO.) Just as a recent example, Thomas Roberts did a morning anchoring gig and then returned to sub for Keith Oberman in the PM. David Shuster, who was a damn good journalist when he covered the Washington beat for NBC, was used much the same way.

As much as I detest Fox Cable News, that network doesn't blur the lines. You never see O'Reilly, Hannity or Beck playing a news anchor--they're always functioning as "commentators."

Afraid to answer the question?

No. I just don't pander to idiots like you who have now been reduced to nothing more than an infantile "fraidy cat" style taunt in order to get what you want. Seriously, am I afraid? Considering how many times I've been adamant to get in your business on this board and give you hell, my bravery should be the last thing you should be questioning.

Besides... who has face pics on their profile and who doesn't? I thought so.
Checkmate. Now shut the fuck up.

I'll take your evasive lack of a real answer as a yes.

So, you didn't hear what you wanted to hear so you assumed your own bigoted answer and ran with it. More proof that you're a blithering idiot.

or as you might say
Checkmate. Now shut the fuck up.

How nice.... you can copy & paste. Think of something original next time, OK?
Oh, I forgot. You can't. Which is why you brought up Nielsen Ratings for the 10,000,000th time on this board. You one trick ponies are about as predictable as a gay scandal in the GOP. Don't forget to tap those toes nice and loud next time you're in a public stall, OK?

Smooches!

So, you didn't hear what you wanted to hear so you assumed your own bigoted answer and ran with it. More proof that you're a blithering idiot.

You are so laughably predictable.
You have no arguments so you insult.

You think by making the last post on the subject, you have won the argument.
No. It means you made the last post when everyone else is done.
So you have a Thesaurus.
So do I but I don't have the need to use it excessively with every post because I have an inferiority complex.

You think you are an authority, but have failed to offer anything to back it up.
Just because you call someone a bigot, does not make them a bigot.
Just because you call someone an idiot, does not make them and idiot.
Just because you say you are smart, does not make you smart.

Think of something original next time, OK?
Oh, I forgot. You can't. Which is why you brought up Nielsen Ratings for the 10,000,000th time on this board.

Is this an error, and exaggeration or just a lie?
Your posts are filled with all 3 and I have trouble telling the difference at this point.

You are so very good at math - so you claim.
Put the decimal in the wrong place.
It should be 1.0
