I'm sure at one point this has been talked about here, but I just got a PM from one of the members that likes to sit on the sidelines B) in regards to this study. So, I found the info and decided to repost it here.

Kinsey : Alfred Kinsey, pioneering sexologist, was the first to do a mass scientific survey of human sexual behaviour, collecting some 18,000 sexual histories. From the beginning, the validity of Kinsey’s studies was questioned. Nevertheless, his research remains the main body of knowledge in sex research, a benchmark against which subsequent studies are measured. Kinsey and associates (1948) collected data concerning penis sizes from 3,500 adult males. All length measurements were taken when the penises were erect, along the top of the penis, from the point where the top of the penile shaft meets the pubic area to the tip. The foreskin was retracted in uncircumcised men. All girth measurements were taken from around the middle of the penis. Later data published included flaccid penis length. In summary, Kinsey found that the average size of a flaccid (soft) penis is 4 inches. The average size of an erect (hard) penis is between 5 and 7 inches

Out of over 12,000 members, only about 200 to 300 post regularly.

I like the Kinsey study mostly because it had no reason not to report facts as they were received. There was no size ego in the 40's, or at least far less, and his test size was adequate to make assertions of a random sample. Not perfect, but the best we have, IMHO.

There is a newer study conducted by doctors and nurses that is supposed to be more accurate, but I don't remember the name of it. This study is an internatinal and includes men of all racial and ethnic groups. The average size is slightly smaller. The problem with teh Kinsey study is that men self measured and it used volunteers. Men with less than 4 inches erect simply didn't vollunteer and fibbed about thier size. This through the average off a little.

I am amazed of the low number of men on the very upper end on the Kinsey study. At nine inches only one percent have that size.

I am sure that each study will give slightly different results, since different men will be included in the study.

Freddie, you can rest assured that less than 1% have penises over 9''! I don't care what study you read, it if's a higher percentage than that, throw it away, it's bs. We take things for granted around here, but Kinsey reported an average of about 5.5 '' erect, and I think that's entirely true.

Edit- I just looked a the chart again, that's .1, or one tenth of one percent over 9''! Anything over 8'' being extremely rare. Once again, I have to agree.

Misty: Perhaps people get a bit confused by the very small percentage figures, like 0.1% because they tend to think of it in terms of very small groups. Like, 0.1% of 100 people is only 0.1, of 1000 is only 1 yadah yadah. But, if they thought of it in terms of the whole country then they might find it easier to accept. So if we've got 260million people then theres 260,000 men out there with a penis larger than 9inches. We all know its not usual but when you think of it in small groups it seems like it must be false but when you think of it in bigger groupings, like an overall population, then it doesn't seem so hard to swallow (excuse my deliberate pun lol). And reallly, 260,000 men in this country hung over 9 inches sounds like more than plenty to me

Just thought that might help, but what would I know, Im just a stripper (excuse me, exotic dancer lol).

The population of the US is nearly 300 million. And also, 0.1% of full-grown men doesn't = 0.1% of the population.

Most of the so-called scientific studies have limitations that flaw the acuracy of results, most specifically sample selection or measurement approach.
One that sounded good because the measurements were made by medical personnel rather than self measurement was based on 300 college guys on Spring Break. {How likely is it that a guy with a 3 inch dick would stumble up to the tent to get measured}
Then there is a question of averages. Is it the mode or mean, does a 10 inch scew the results as would a 2 inch or is it the most common. When one study says average is between 5 and 7 it probably means a significant proportion fall between the two measures or most study participants did.
Some very valid points have been made in the discussion so far especially (Misty) the fact that we need to extend percentages to larger populations and (Mme Z) that we use common sense.
Quite a while ago a LPSG member that I think indicated he was an escort, did his own survey that at the time seemed more 'hands on' than many. If I recall correctly he said the higher measuements were indeed rare and most clocked in at between 5 and 6 inches in length.
If anyone remembers that post it would be interesting to resurface it.

Only half of those are men. { reducing the number to 130,000 or 150,000 } But if you are a sizequeen how would you go about finding one given the long odds. Speaking of kinsey didn't he also state most men can only have sex about twice a week slightly less as they age.

I don't think little boys were included in the study.

If you think about it there are less than 120,000 9 inchers in the "pool". How many less i have no idea. For example i think there are about 2 or 3 million men in prison. There are at least 3 million homeless people in this country. There are many men who either aren't sexually active or aren't interested in sex. Supposely 30-50% of females aren't interested in sex. What i wonder about is how many female size queens are there ? Does the equation balance out or are there a lot less or a lot more size queens than hung males ?

And probably half of those 100,000 - 120,000 9 inchers are married reducing the pool to 50,000-60,000.

Honestly, I wasn't that large when I was 18, which made high school a lot easier to take. I didn't grow to my current size until I was probably 23 or so.

Something else to consider perhaps...

That's interesting. I became sexually active at 15 but I can't remember any one remarking on my size during my teens. It was in my twenties when people started commenting on my size (8 x 5.5) so maybe I grew a bit. And the behavior learned in those early experiences is probably why I've never boasted about my size nor used it, deliberately, as a come on. Belonging to LPSG has sorta made me proud of my dick again.

Come to think of it I haven't measured myself since my early 20's so maybe its time to do it again. I just need a really good hard on.

DieHard9x6: I'm reading The Inner Circle right now, actually, about Kinsey's closest co-workers/researchers/friends at the time of the project. It's not lurid (at least, not yet), but it is a well-written piece. I recommend it to all lovers of sex history! :D

Misty: So, my maths wasn't quite right, I did say its not the kind of figure work Im used to LOL.

But it does put it more into perspective. If you've got 30-50,000 in America who are 9 inches and above that's still a lot of people. Plus, its only in our country. You still have to take into account people from overseas. We've got like a 6billion population so if you've only got a viable male population of 2 billion (including those married but not those under age) then what is .1% of that number?My calculator says 2million.

Im sure there's some maths whizs out there who can make that all more sensible but its still pretty interesting. It also makes you wonder what the stat is for men in double figures. If 8 and 9 inches is only .1% then would 10 and 11 inches only be .05%? Or would it be even less?

Kind of makes me wonder if, when girls are talking accurately about a guy with 10,11 or a bit more inches, they might not in a lot of cases be talking about the same guy. The population in that size range is pretty small in terms of the overall national population so its a possibility.

I guess its like having an IQ of 140 or over. Its not such a big group locally but when you start talking nationally and internationally there's quite a lot that fit the bill.

No problem misty. Its nice to have you here. I sometimes go to the strip clubs in sf. I don't think anybody really knows how many men are over 10 inches or how many female size queens there are in this country. I know about 15 or 20 actresses have either admited to being size queens or are strongly suspected of being size queens. I don't think kinsey found anyone over 10 inches in his relatively small sample. {or one at the most} But they exist. {obviously}
