Why would you give Salman Rushdie a knighthood - if anything he should be tried for crimes against literature - has anyone tried to read his work?

I can't see why he has been knighted, he is a very bright guy but I find his writing like swimming through treacle.

I find his writing is full of energy but empty of emotion.
Finally, it feels like a cheat.
There's talent there, though.

If you're interested in an Indian who can write, try Michael Ondaatje(sp), whom I've met a couple of times.

He's not Indian. He is a Sri Lankan Canadian. First arrived in Canada at the age of 19.
Some of his Sri Lankan ancestry is Tamil, and many Tamils live in South India ... so maybe that's where you got this idea.
