I see this on Grindr profiles all the time, especially outside the U.S., and though I'm not a size queen, I really would like to know if there's perhaps a consensus on what each category means in terms of inches or cm.

For example: I'm 7.1"×5.5" (18.1x14cm) - which category would this size fall into?

For Average size a quick web search came up with studies carried out in the past decade in which penis size measurements were taken by health experts using standard procedures. According to one of those studies, these are the average sizes of penises in their different states:

  • Flaccid penis length: 9.16 centimeters (3.61 inches)
  • Flaccid stretched penis length: 13.24 centimeters (5.21 inches)
  • Erect penis length: 13.12 centimeters (5.17 inches)
  • Flaccid penis girth: 9.31 centimeters (3.67 inches)
  • Erect penis girth: 11.66 centimeters (4.59 inches)
So that makes you a large verging on XL

Thank you for the data from the studies, but I'm wondering: How do we come to a consensus of what is large vs XL?

When taking cock in the arse or throat what one guy says ooooooooooo that's a large cock to another its XXL ...........

It is a bit subjective really

Can't you just list your actual dimensions? Like the above poster said, the L, XL, and XXL are purely subjective. And it's a mixture of length and girth that makeup a cock's size.

I would say you are nice and large!

I don't have a problem listing my actual dimensions, my question was more geared toward figuring out if there's a clear consensus on what those sizes meant, but it's becoming quite clear that it's purely subjective.

I don't think there's a "consensus" - but the closest thing would probably be the categories at the "calcSD" site, which are based on statistics - ie. standard deviations from the mean from a combination of studies.

As just one example, using global stats for bone-pressed length:
  • 6.2" is 'above average'
  • 6.8" is 'abnormally large'
  • 7.1" is 'macropenis'
  • 8.0" is 'enormous'
  • 9.3" is 'statistically unlikely'
These categories would change a bit depending on which dataset you select, or whether it's non bone-pressed (for instance, the values are 0.5" to 1" higher if you select "western" instead of "global" for the dataset).

I think these breakdowns seem reasonable for rating length, but overall "size" is a combination of length AND girth.

Being 6.5' NBP length i would never think or claim my dick is "above average" to anyone because my girth is below average, so my overall size really is on the smallish size because it's thinner than most.

True enough! What's interesting with the calcSD stats is that, for that very reason, the volume for a given length and girth is often classified higher - because it's less common for a guy to have both at the same time.

For instance, a length and girth of 6.8 x 5.6 (both just at the threshold of "abnormally large") get classified as a volume of "macropenis."

Where do you find those classifications on calcSD? I'm curious what mine classify as based on my length and girth volume.

I just tried entering numbers in 0.1" increments until the classification changes. You'll also have to click "Change options -> View more detailed results"
