You just love the orange wig! LOLOLOLOL
I dare you to wear it to the next WIC meeting at church

No actually, the orange wig was tame compared to some of Senora (Knight) Cruz 's wardrobe of wigs. Actually, I was refering to La Negra in the video and her long streaked weave....

It's just that I have not taken any Latin dance classes, so I don't know how to dance like that...YET!

So.... you were inspired? Sounds fun! My friend has been trying to get me to do it for years. She swears by it. I want to learn Swing myself....Maybe a few more Kashi bars before trying latin...:biggrin1:

Kim,

If you are ever in Toronto... There's a very sweet and very active Cuban & eclectic Latin jazz scene locally at the Lula Lounge

Fantastic musicians and great dancing. Who knew so many great Cuban expat musicians would be this far from home. Old school and recent trends.

Free salsa lessons on certain nights.

Rawb,

That sounds great...I guess I would want my salsa lessons in private before I took them in public! LOL! I want to make sure I look like a natural beginner! LOL!

Give up the Kashi bars and start eating some good lating food, with plenty of spice. You'll be up on those feet dancing like there's no tomorrow.

AZUCAR!

No, Darlin'. The Kashi bars are to prepare myself to gain the stamina necessary for such strenuous dancing... I do like spicey foods, however...

About azúcar.

I think that Celia screams azúcar to create a better atmosphere in the party.

So, the proper translation would be something like "spice it up" (if that is the expression)

BTW, it reminds me "Sugar" of System of a Down.

Hey, Andresito, how do you translate "andar o bailar de lao"? I guess it´s some kinda expression.

The first time i heard the word "tumbao" was in a Ruben Blades´song: Pedro Navaja.

Por la esquina del viejo barrio lo ví pasar
con el tumbao que tienen los guapos al caminar.

No expression at all, we're just skipping / eating some letters.

Lao it's lado (side)

For example, in english you can say THE and DA, it's the same sound.

Andresito,

Could you then go back and look at the translation on the page and tell me if that is really what it means?

:biggrin1: :biggrin1:

I´ve seen one of my mistakes, hahaha. Apretao is not pretty. Don´t know why i did it, i know what means pretty; surely i had a short-circuit inside my brain. (Pretty has a closing sound to preto [tight]).

Apretao (apretado) means tight. But i guess it´s used in other way. I´m sure that here, de lao and apretao haven´t got the literal meaning.

Sorry.

The translation that Knockernail has made is really good, I just change it a little bit.

BTW, read the lyrics thinking in two things:
1) tumbao is a way of walking, consequence of a rhythm.
2) tumbao is related to tumbas (tombs, cementery)

I don't know the cuban tradition, but maybe tumbao is a way commemorate the dead people.

That lil´black girl walking along
that lil´black girl has her tumbao
and when people go looking at her
she dances close by her side.

The blackgirl has tumbao
and she doesn´t walk by her side.

If you want to come right
better walk straight
just for no slips
and later come and cry.

If you want to come the first
better run slowly
enjoy well the life (darling)
although just taking measures.

Azúcar.
The blackgirl has tumbao
and she doesn´t walk by her side.

When people die (oh, my god)
it´s said that they were so good
so good when they were alived
as the night and the day (do you think so?)

I want they come to tell me the truth
I don´t bear more lies already (always the same)
enjoy well the life
although just taking measures.

Azúcar
The blackgirl ...

RAP

This lil´black girl has tumbao
everybody follows her by her walking.

Por cierto, ¿de qué parte de España sos Knock? Yo tengo conocidos en Murcia, La Rioja, Bilbao y Barcelona, es una de las pendientes viajar a tu país para visitarlo.
