i am a professional actor,
and like most of those, i subsidize my income
in various ways,
mostly through a variety of office and/or retail jobs.

I must say that i live pretty well for a person
in that position.
I have a nice studio apt,
the things that i need,
and health insurance (quite important in the USA)....

But what i *don't* have is a day off.
LOL.
I work nearly every holiday except
Christmas and Thanksgiving....
and i usually work up to or around those, so I
can't travel far.

Does anyone else in the US have to work this Monday?

Holidays tend to get me down, since nearly
all of my friends have had something planned this weekend...
a BBQ, or a trip to a lake or some summery place...
Some of my gay pals
have all sorts of naked poolside fun going on....

So "waaaaaaa" and "boo hoooooooooo" and all of that..... :p
(actually i'm going to have lunch with some friends...
so that is much better than nothing)

Hey txquis

Just thought I'd commiserate for a moment. I've worked retail management for the past six years so I don't ever get holidays off. It's usually far busier for us since everyone has the day off except us retail folks. The best part is that I've lived across the country from my family for the past five years so I don't even get to see them on Thanksgiving or Christmas, as the days after are always the busiest for us. Oh well, I love what I do most of the time, and have all the things you do that make it worthwhile the other 350 or so days of the year that aren't holiday related!

Virginia Tech classes are in session tomorrow, so yes, I work. I don't get paid extra for working on this holiday (or a few other federal holidays when we do hold class), but we get the time during fall break and spring break, which are two week-long paid holidays for us.

All in all, I think I come out a bit ahead.

I can commesurate with you guys. When I was working I did not have to work on holidays. but who cares. it doesn't sound as if any of you are missing much by working on holidays. You all seem to be getting your share and more!!

... I've worked retail management...
I understand. For more than four years I worked in technology for a big retailer. We didn't get the holidays off either cuz we're there to support the stores.

I quit. Much happier :D

Thanks for the comments.
I dont like to complain since i feel there are too
many whiners out there in the world...

but honestly...with my large circle of friends,
i can still feel lonesome sometimes on a day that
everyone else is with their family, or group.
Helps to talk about it,
so thanks
:)
