I did marry one! Not because she was a stripper I hasten to add. In fact she'd just retired from stripping and her agency kept offering her jobs for about the next 5 years. Yes, she was THAT popular!
Heatherlou, don't listen to all that rubbish about strippers being drunks and junkies. Sure some of them are, but so are some of the girls who work in banks, hospitals, etc. In fact I expect there are far more addicts in the nursing professions. I know you are bright enough and secure enough not to become a drunk or a junkie whatever profession you choose, so don't worry on that score.
My wife spent at least 10 years as an exotic dancer in and around London, and because of the connections she made socially she also did a few small parts in movies, TV series', documentaries, etc.
All kinds of dancing (and singing, acting, etc.) require that you get into the role and act. That's fine guys. It doesn't mean that the singer or dancer loses their ability to have intimacy with their lover/partner. Sure there are some vulnerable damaged girls who become strippers, sex workers etc. but there are vulnerable damaged girls (and boys) in all sorts of jobs. It's just that a lot of people disapprove of stripping and tend to believe the mythology.
The vast majority of the pubs and clubs my wife worked in were well run and the girls' boundaries were well protected. After all, if the girls didn't like a venue, they'd tell the agent. It's just the same for musicians. If a band plays a gig in a rough pub where people start throwing bottles or stealing their gear - they don't go back. They also tell their mates and soon none of the local bands will take bookings for that pub. It's just the same with dancers. They know each other. They are in it together. And most of them are very nice, intelligent, fun people.
The clothes dancers wear need to be better made than the flimsy cheap crap you find in sex shops. Sex shop clothes are novelty items and are designed to appeal to guys who buy them in the hope of getting their partner to wear them in the bedroom. They rarely fit properly, and just get thrown away. Dancer's clothes (bra's, corsets, g'strings, etc. have to be cut well so that they flatter the figure. They have to have good fastners (my wife has some good stories about stuck zippers), and they need to last. Shoes are a nightmare, as they have to be strong, supportive and well balanced, as well as fit perfectly AND look sexy. It's a tall order. When my wife found a pair that worked for her she'd go back and buy another pair or two, then when one broke, she could have it fixed whilst she carried on working. You have to look after your feet. Sensible dancers (and models) never wear high heels off stage.
If you'd like some more advice Heather please feel free to PM me and I'll get my wife to write to you.
Ahh the Best
