Here are some things that I don't understand:

This is not something that is very prevalent in this thread, but I don't understand why some people like to name the specific users they have on ignore. Why would that be interesting for anyone to know? Is it to "rub it in"? A "haha, I have you on ignore, I'm above you"-kinda thing? It strikes me as a somewhat smug thing to do.

And also, why on earth would anyone have Mercury Girl on ignore? Like her or hate her, agree or disagree with her, she makes this a much more fun place either way. Not that the two are alike at all, but it's almost like having Patchos on ignore.

I tend to agree with you, Bris. I don't publicly announce my ignore list - at least I don't think I do. Generally I just let the user quietly sink into the tar pits of my mind.

And then, there are users who I may not particularly like, but who make the site kind of interesting. 100% agreement is pretty boring. I don't want to miss those posts!

For the record I don't have MG on ignore.

BUT, while I do enjoy her wit, intelligence and ability to put together a hugely entertaining post she does have the tendency to go off on some of the most disgusting anti-woman rants I've had the displeasure of reading from a male OR female.

If she was male I'd accuse her of being a misogynist.

It's a huge pity, all things considered.

I'm not even quite sure how the ignore list works. The only one I have on ignore is a person who never posts on the forums, but kept pestering me in private messages. Do you just not see a users posts at all, or is there an indication that someone from your ignore list has made a post? Aren't some of these posts sometimes required to read in order to fully understand what's going on in threads? Aren't there threads that appear to be a response to nothing because a post is missing?

Or is there an option to display posts from people on ignore? If so, I think my curiosity would make the ignore function completely useless for me.

Anyway, I'm not about to ignore anybody who contributes to the forums. The horrible and offensive users are as important to my participation on the site as the loveable and intelligent users are. I don't wanna miss a thiiiing.

Ignore means you can't see their posts and I think it means they can't contact you as well. I'm not real sure on that last part though. You can choose to see individual posts, though. I know when I have made the right choice when I have zero temptation to view the post of someone I have on ignore. Generally, it's someone who spews such hatred and anger, that viewing it does nothing but make me ill.

Everyone who's on my ignore list is on there for excessive strings of sexist remarks and mean spirited attacks against other friendly posters, most particularly against women or transgender individuals.

I don't spam my little report button hoping to ban such people from the forums, but I probably don't find that type of posting as entertaining as others may.

.

Nah. I just didn't want anyone who wasn't on my ignore list wondering if they were.

I seriously doubt MG even knows who I am or cares that she's on my ignore list (to my recollection, I put her there on the basis of her remarks towards others, not as a result of some heated debate she and I had).

She is insensitive to the various coping strategies employed by survivors of rape. Makes her a horrible human being, in my opinion, and clearly in the eyes of some others. I don't have her on ignore though. I had three people on ignore, one female. None of them post here anymore. So, I removed them.

I'm sure MG wasn't wondering whether she's on your ignore list or not. Partly because I doubt that people go around wondering if they are on some stranger's ignore list on an internet forum, and partly because you told her in a private message. Yeah, I still don't get it.

I can understand why you put people on your ignore list. I know what it's for, and I agree that many of the people you have on ignore are horrible, sexist morons (I just happen to need the drama and especially the funny, insightful comebacks in order to find this place interesting enough to keep coming back). I can surely understand that. I hate those idiots as well. I just don't understand why putting someone on ignore is something that people make a public event out of.

Yeah, I read that thread. I can easily understand why people dislike her, and I agree that she was way out of line and absolutely wrong in that thread. So I know very well that she rubs a lot of people, including myself, the wrong way on occasions.

She still is one of the more unique posters on the site, and I want to be able to see posts from people like that. I like her posts more often than not, so it's unfortunate that she had to show such insensitivity to rape victims.

I agree. That's why I don't have her on ignore. Every story needs a villain .
