to answer your question luka love, I've never been a fan of pills, shots, patches or implants, I relied on condoms prior to getting with Dave. Dave and I are married now, if we make a baby, we make a baby and if we don't, it's not the end of the world.

Contraception? None. Been trying very hard to get pregnant for a year and a half!

I use condoms. The pill was trying to ruin my life. I'm convinced it's poisonous.
I am an insane person when on the pill. You'd think it to be counter-intuitive to be on the pill while trying to conceive, but I have to go on it every cycle for which I receive fertility treatments. :banghead:

I don't use contraceptives, my cunt is STD-proof, and I'll tell it when I'm ready to make babies.
Think you could have a chat with mine sometime?

I have used the sponge in the past and loved the fact that I could prevent conception without having to be on the pill or use condoms. However both times I tried to use it I got nasty, nasty infections. Like the smell was so bad it literally made me gag. I don't think that's normal.

Would have saved a lot of trouble if I just knew back then I was infertile and couldn't get pregnant anyway. :(

I use the the pill AND condoms. If a relationship becomes serious I drop the condoms.

Just noticed the 'and why'.

When I first started thinking about contraception at the age of 16, I knew I wanted to use something I would have a fair amount of control over. I felt uncomfortable relying on condoms alone, as they break way too often, and being a bit of a pisshead (at that time) I was worried that I would forget to use one when drunk (or not care enough to use one). Other hormonal forms of contraception weren't widely used yet, so I went straight to the pill and have never looked back.

I use condoms for casual sex, not just to protect against STDs, but also to make doubly sure I don't get pregnant. In a serious relationship the idea of getting pregnant isn't as scary, so I don't need the extra form of protection (and of course STDs become less of a problem).

I wish there was a pill for STDs as well as for contraception.

I guess I need to update my answer. Because of a recent blood clot, I'm no longer allowed to take the pill. My favoured method of contraception is now a no-go zone! I'm devastated. I feel so vulnerable - like passing sperm are going to jump out and impregnate me!

I've also been told any hormonal method is out. So it looks like the diaphragm and the copper IUD are my only options. I've read that the diaphragm isn't the most effective thing in the world, so the IUD it is. I'm not 100% happy with it, but I don't have much choice.

OH. MY. GOD.

You have just changed my life.

I am making a gyn appointment tomorrow (today really, but...). Holy moly. I want that IUD.

I now use the Home Page Mirena IUD and it is the best money I ever spent. FDA first said you could only get it after you had one baby.

But now thats changed and the FDA approved Mirena for everyone w/without a baby because it helps with heavy periods like nothing else can. My OBGYN loved this ruling as they have been telling teenagers who have not even had sex yet that this could help their period problems almost totally go away. Now they are putting them in women under 19.

I would of killed for this when I was a teenager. I was so sick a hugged my toilet 2 days a month since the age of thirteen. It would of made a huge difference in my life for sure. So I urge everyone to try it. Almost all the insurance plans are paying for it. I only had to pay a $50 co-pay. If I had this as a teenager I would of saved hundreds of dollars on BC pills. Plus you also save money on not buying pads/Tampax.

The two girls next door are like me sick and craps so bad they pass out in school. The IUD took all that away for them, neither have ever had sex. They love it that they are not in pain every month and their mood swings are gone.

I only had periods the first year then they went completely away during year two till now. Mirena is good for five full years then they replace it.

Once they take it out at any time that you want you can get pregnant in as little as 6 weeks from removal. No more crazed she-devil days for me and my husband is so happy.

I loved it when he looked at my doctor and shouted where the hell was this while we dated? (my period ruined every single vacation we ever went on, even when we plotted our trips around my period it still came early and bit us in the ass).

That sucks! Sorry to hear that.

So, if you met a guy who told you he had a vasectomy and was perfectly clean, would he be higher on your "fuckable" scale now compared to the pre-clot state you were in?

Is contraception that big a factor with women though? Does a guy seem more attractive if his man chowder is baby making proof?

Any idea how easy it is to scrape the IUD with vigorous sex?

Tubes are tied :)

Do you still wear condoms during casual sex, or wait until you can trust him enough when he says he's clean (or until the lab results come back)?

We are big fans of coitus interruptus, risky but hasn't failed (fingers crossed!) in 12 years, plus he enjoys it because he gets to blow on my tits, belly or wherever takes his fancy!!

Don't try this at home though kids!

I would have fucked him before! But now he's looking particularly appealing . . .

On a serious note - usually I wouldn't give a shit if he was baby-making proof because my WONDERFUL PILL (which I can't take anymore - grrrr) and condoms would have been protection enough.

Oh dear! Really? This is not good news. My sex is ALWAYS vigorous. But the diaphragm has too high a failure rate and I have no trust in condoms (although I still use them).

At this point I'm really, really hoping my research turns up some positive news about non-estrogen hormonal contraceptives.

Can't risk getting pregnant on warfarin. It causes big bad defects.

Ok, so for some women, this is a good thing, for some not. It was one of the dealbreakers for my second wife... after we got married. Wish she fucking told me that when we were going out. <-- No, I don't have any issues

No no no! My question was honestly a question, It wasn't a statement of "see how bad IUDs are".

Yasmin and Yaz are a lot safer than the news makes them seem.

Did you ask your doc about them?
That is what I take when I have to go on the pill for fertility treatments. Still get the side effects that make me pretty psycho, but not quite as bad.

Unfortunately my specialist said NO hormonal contraceptives at all. However, I'm not one to take a doctor at their word. I'm currently doing some research of my own to assess the risks. Most stuff I've found on the net says that only contraceptives containing estrogen up the risk of blood clots. I'm now in the process of checking journal articles to see if there have been any good studies with positive results.

I'm assuming she knew about it before you were married? If so, it sounds like it was more of an excuse than a genuine deal-breaker.

I still hope to have kids one day, so if I ended up in a LTR with someone who was baby-making proof, we'd probably have to discuss the possibility of using donor sperm. But if he was happy for me to use donor sperm, it wouldn't be a deal-breaker for me. In fact it would be kind of nice to not have to think about contraception at all. And right now it would be a bloody relief!

No no no! My question was honestly a question, It wasn't a statement of "see how bad IUDs are".

Phew! I thought you were speaking from personal experience! I feel so much better now . From everything I've read, it seems that on rare occasions the guy might feel the strings, but that this shouldn't be a big deal. If you feel the device itself, you should get it taken out.

I TOTALLY agree with AlteredEgo. Since I started having sex(age 16), I have been on every single conceivable oral contraceptive, and also the nuva ring and the patch. The ONLY one of these I have ever liked was the patch. It had almost no side effects, was easy to use and remember to use, and helped my horrible period times to be not so horrible. But, around age 22, I went through a weird hormonal change, and the patch became like death to me, I could barely catch my breath, and was dizzy a lot... The doctor said it was making my blood pressure sky-rocket. Needless to say, doctors made me quit using it, and I almost immediately felt better. Here's a small list of the reasons I no longer use ANY pill:

Dizziness
Nausea
Throwing up
Cramps so bad I had to miss school and get a tranquilizer shot in my ass just to walk
Hair loss
Weight gain
Loss of sex drive
Emotions running wild
Depression
Irritation
Blood pressure fluctuation
Etc.

About 2 years ago, I got so sick of being moved from pill to pill(at the doctors suggestions), I said FUCK YOU to all that hormone BULLSHIT, and now I just use condoms. I have not been pregnant yet, and I feel sooo much better, UNBELIEVABLY BETTER THAN I EVER DID WHILE ON ANY BIRTH CONTROL PILL. One of these days I might get back on if there are some new types available, since I miss the feeling of semen inside of me, but for now, I think my body is forever grateful I stopped that mess.

Condoms are my primary birth-control method. I've found you can get guys to agree to wear a condom pretty easily if you apply it with your mouth.

I've never found that I had to 'get guys to agree'. Every single guy I've ever been with has had his own condoms with him and used them automatically.

Having realised that there are so many real women who have either come back or joined the site, I`d really like them post in this thread. I think it`s important to talk about this.

Time for another update.

In December I got permission from my specialist to use non-estrogen hormonal contraception, in part because, due to my extensive research, I understood that it wasn't completely risk-free.

I got the implant put in in January, and it's fantastic. No bad side effects. No periods so far :biggrin1:. And all those passing sperm can no longer jump out and impregnate me. I am once again, happy with my contraception.
