    I like this one.
    Employee said he wasn't late, because he had no intention of getting to work before 9:00 a.m. (his start time was 8:00 a.m.)

    Well he could say he was taking his Lunch Break at the beginning of the day... and then at noon, conveniently forget he'd already taken it..

    Not really a 'late for work' excuse, but the recent "I tripped and fell into the lifeboat" made me laugh, despite the awful situation and his attitude to it.

    I'm late for work every day and I don't care. It's a pattern for me which means I no longer want to work there.

    I was late for work several times, my best excuse was that a building collapsed. Strange thing was it did happen a week later but that day I showed up on time.
