I'm sick of you and your whining about taxes and federal aid. I mean all you do is wake up at 4m so you can work from 5am to 1pm. Then when you come home, after helping your kids with their schoolwork and fixing them dinner for later, your lazy ass has the nerve to take an hour-and-a-half nap before you get up to work 4pm to midnight. The nerve of some people!

You really need to take a look at your rich friends so you can see all the things you're doing wrong, like asking for assistance so your baby can have formula. Tell that lazy ass scumbag baby to get a job and buy their own damn formula! I hear Target is hiring.

Look at your rich friends. Do you understand how much strength one has to muster to write a check to the nanny who watches their kids? And that bitch nanny has the nerve to ask for time off so she can take her son to the clinic for chemo therapy. Tell bitch jr. to get a job and hire a limo driver to take him like real hard-working Americans do.

Oh, and getting in the car so someone else can drive you all the way across town so you can pay other people to cook a meal for you? That takes energy people! Oh, and don't even talk about work. Do you have any idea how hard it is to sit in an office and look at charts? Has your broke ass ever even seen a chart? Then, several times a year, they have to actually wait in line to take a passport photo so they can fly to the islands. It's hell on the knees.

And that brings us to this election. If you vote for that socialist Barack Obama, rich people are going to have to call up their accountants to find new ways to hide their money to avoid those evil taxes that only poor, lazy people should have to pay. But you don't see rich folks asking people to hold the phone to their ears do you? That's cuz they're self-sufficient. Say it with me. Sel-f. Su-fi-cient.

I just don't get it.

I just don't get it.

Blame the victim. And yes you have to pay for your rape kit...you should not have been out walking around alone. It's YOUR fault.

If thats all you heard then your clearly missing the sarcasm and satire in relation to another thread.

Then again what do I expect from someone who can't come up with a better insult then "bla bla bla".

I get the sarcasm and satire.. I just think it sounds pathetic. That's what I feel when I read posts about people wanting socialized handouts in this country. Like marleyisalegend stated "like asking for assistance so your baby can have formula." I mean REALLY?? Do people really think like that? Why on earth would you bring a child into the world that you can't even buy formula for? My advice to that young mother is hold a nickel between your knees and a get a little Jesus in your life.

Ultimately we are never going to see eye to eye, and we are never going to agree. Wealth and poverty divide this country in two. The Wealthy want to keep their money, and the poor want them to give it away. We will probably never agree, but I can say this.. I thank you all for a passionate discussion because as long as the people from every class continue to talk to each other and keep communication open, then there is hope. I respect everyones opinions no matter how sarcastic they may be.

I can't imagine what life has been like for marleyisalegend? I'm sure we have very different perspectives on life.

There you go with your foot in your mouth again, did I say I was poor? I didn't mention my financial status, not even once. Apparently money can buy you diamonds, friends, and immunity from the law, but it can't buy you an education.

Reading is fundamental my friend. Try it out.

I can't imagine what life has been like for marleyisalegend? I'm sure we have very different perspectives on life.

Well here's the easy part, I'm a pretty upfront person so if you shut your fucking mouth and listen for once instead of jumping to conclusions you might learn something about me.

Believe me, the LAST thing I want is a world where people who earn their money have to share it with people who want to sit around all day. I have a few cousins who do nothing but lay on their backs and pop out babies and the state gives them money since they don't wanna look for work. Do you think I enjoy paying taxes just so my cousins can lay around and have sex all day? Ehhh! Wrong.

Do you think I want Obama (or Mccain) to tax you so I can have a little extra pocket change? No. Until I lost my job, I went to work at 6 am and didn't get off until midnight (2 jobs). I'm VERY willing to earn my own. HOWEVER, my concern as far as "spreading the wealth" is NOT the hookers and drug dealers, it's their children.

Those cousins I told you about, their babies are living in abandoned motels. They are not being given a fair chance in life because their parents made the wrong decisions. If the government is going to take a few extra dollars of my weak ass paycheck so that those kids can have a chance at a better future, I'm all for it.

The way I see it, I can either help pay for those kids to go to college, or 15 years from now when they're teenagers they might be robbing me at gunpoint because they don't have any other options in life.

The only thing that pisses me off about rich people is NOT that they don't wanna pay higher taxes, it's that they're socially irresponsible in thinking that having an extra $50 is worth more than building a productive SOCIETY.

My belief is, if poor people who have almost nothing can pay their taxes without complaining, shut the fuck up if you live in Beverly Hills and have a personal chef, driver, and maid.

whine, whine, whine. you're a pathetic rude crybaby.

the poor very often are the ones who make the wealthy their wealth, through the hard work of the
"poor". so really it is the wealth of the poor to begin with. one form of "socialism" isn't government
socialism, it is worker owned industry. capitalism with the capital put into the hands of the people
who actually worked for it and produced something. not just the people who were good at
pushing people around and putting down decent hard-working people.

history is full of examples of what happened to the wealthy aristocrats and monarchs
who forgot who was propping them up.

I tried to clear the air and move on.

If by clear the air you mean enact judgmentalism and make assumptions then yes, consider the air clear.

seriously let it go.

Let what go? The only thing in my hand is a pack of Newports.

Your posts sound so negative and angry.

Not all of 'em. I'm actually a pretty silly guy.

It's just an online forum.

You mean this isn't Professor Thompson's US Economics Class? Damnit!

Take a deep breath, it's gonna be okay. I promise.

No it's not gonna be okay! I'm hyperventilating! Help! Somebody call Oprah! Call Tom Cruise! Call Miss Celie! Harpo! Save me Jeebus!

A smart prosperous country should be able to manage to a minimum those who live in relative poverty. The establishment needs a level of poverty and have nots pour encourager les autres.

My money is on Marley making good money.

My issue isn't helping the poor or anyone in need for that matter. My issue is the people that manage the money that is going to be passed on to them. The amount of waste (regardless of party) is immense, that's where my heartburn comes from.

As I've posted before (and I'm just picking a number here), if you take 10 grand of my money and 8 or 9 of it makes it to a family in need, great, I hope it helps them raise their kids, feeds them, educates them etc. Not wasted on 237 levels of government filtering that waters those funds down.

There were times during my childhood my folks needed help every once in a while, I remember my mother collecting food stamps. Not all of us that do ok think that "poor people" are lazy, some are lazy but it doesn't make up the entire demo. Just like all people living comfortably are not all evil people that only care about themselves, some do but it doesn't make up the entire demo.

How is the relative poverty in the UK?

--
Poverty in the UK

Nearly 13 million people live in poverty in the UK – that’s 1 in 5 of population.
3.8 million children in the UK are living in poverty.
2.2 million pensioners in the UK are living in poverty.
7.2 million working age adults in the UK are living in poverty.
70% of Bangladeshi children in the UK are poor.
Women are the majority in the poorest groups.
London has a higher proportion of people living in poverty than any other region in the UK
The UK has a higher proportion of its population living in relative poverty than most other EU countries: of the 27 EU countries, only 6 have a higher rate than the UK.

of course that is according to OxFam, not me.

Believe me, the LAST thing I want is a world where people who earn their money have to share it with people who want to sit around all day.
But that is much more common among the very poor than the scenario you describe in your first post.
I have a few cousins who do nothing but lay on their backs and pop out babies and the state gives them money since they don't wanna look for work.
This statement speaks volumes. The truth is that they they don't want to work since the government pays them, not the other way around. That is the essence of why this kind of socialism is bad.

Well that's very noble, but all the free money in the world isn't going to help a hooker's or drug dealer's children. So what if redistribution of wealth helped you a little? It comes at the expense of encouraging the majority of poor people like your cousin. It's not fair to those that have worked hard for a better life.

Those cousins I told you about, their babies are living in abandoned motels. They are not being given a fair chance in life because their parents made the wrong decisions. If the government is going to take a few extra dollars of my weak ass paycheck so that those kids can have a chance at a better future, I'm all for it.
NEWSFLASH!!!!!
You can help them WITHOUT having the government take MY money. Why don't you? And how many 'very rich' people do you know? Chances are they give to non-profit companies or churches that have programs that help children like you cousins. You just ASSUME that they are stingy, evil people that don't care. Bill Gates has given BILLIONS of dollars.

The way I see it, I can either help pay for those kids to go to college, or 15 years from now when they're teenagers they might be robbing me at gunpoint because they don't have any other options in life.
OK how about some gratuitous fear mongering? Or is this a threat? Anyway this is more garbage. I volunteer in an inner city high school (my alma mater BTW) and many of these kids have horrible parents, but there are no more bad apples there than there are among the rich. To blindly call them criminal or future criminals is about as ignorant and prejudice as blindly calling rich people bad, stingy, uncaring, etc.

The only thing that pisses me off about rich people is NOT that they don't wanna pay higher taxes, it's that they're socially irresponsible in thinking that having an extra $50 is worth more than building a productive SOCIETY.
Again, more assumptions. You assume that the rich don't like higher taxes because they personally don't like to part with their money. You also FALSELY believe that the GOVERNMENT would do a better job at "building a productive society" than the free market. That has been proven wrong over and over throughout history. The truth is that rich people can see the forrest for the trees. They know that the tax is going to hurt businesses which will raise prices on products and services and cause layoffs and wage cuts. THAT would make for a less productive society. The best way to increase productivity and the economy in general is to skim as LITTLE out of the system as possible. The skimming is in the form of taxes. The less, the better.

My belief is, if poor people who have almost nothing can pay their taxes without complaining, shut the fuck up if you live in Beverly Hills and have a personal chef, driver, and maid.

I certainly hope that anyone that knows how to counter your ignorance and hate does NOT STFU.

Well, first lets examine what a business isnt. Its NOT real. Any corp., partnership, sole propietorship., is a entity created by someone. AIG didnt exist until its founder filled out the approriate paperwork and stated the mission of the business. If I start a business and I am doing everything myself then I derserve all of the money I generate, but when you hire other people to work WITH you not for you, they become a part of that entity as well. With that being said, my point is, too many times the people who either start the business or are at the top of the company, overvalue their importance and the amount of work they really do, so the first thing they want to do is cut money from everywhere else but their pockets. Do you think Henry Paulson deserves a half a billion dollars for the job he did??????????????????????????????????????????????????????
Come on. The problem in my opinion is that so many of you so called rich people, who make more than 250,000 a year are pissed off because your trying to live like your a millionaire. How about a little reality. Start living within your means, which at 250,000 or more a year, should be workable. AND IF YOUR WONDERING, I HAVE MY OWN BUSINESS, AND EVEN THOUGH IM NOT MAKING 250,000 A YEAR, WHEN I DO I WONT MIND AT ALL. THATS WHAT COMMUNITY IS ABOUT.

Selfishness leads to greed, greed leads to hate, HATE LEADS TO THE DARKSIDE. The darkside leads to suffering.

Lets start coming together instead of always thinking me first. That mentality goes nowhere:cool:

This post is full of false assumptions (too many to list) that are conjured up from an envious little mind.

If you ever break out and make it rich, you will want to be able to decide where YOUR money goes (assuming you like to give back to the community like MOST rich people), not have it wasted by a governmnet beaurocracy (that is if you ever become wise enough to recognize this fact).

I suppose you have presumed that my comment "a smart prosperous country" was referring solely to the US.

Well guess what Flash, you are wrong. I mean any smart prosperous country, and yes that does include the US. No sarcasm, I am calling the US smart.

However it is good to see your true colours, your desire to troll me on this board when you want to pick a fight to quench your innate aggression.

https://www.cia.gov/library/publications/the-world-factbook/geos/us.html

https://www.cia.gov/library/publications/the-world-factbook/geos/uk.html

https://www.cia.gov/library/publications/the-world-factbook/geos/ch.html

https://www.cia.gov/library/publications/the-world-factbook/geos/is.html

I prefer your own CIA figures to OXfam. They are a political lobbyist and have the distinction of being the worst charity in the UK in actually getting money donated to those who need it.

There is considerable controversy over the PPP formula for guaging relative poverty, but above you will see (at different dates) the relative poverty for the above countries is calculated at

China 8%
USA 12%
UK 14%
Israel 21.6%

In the UK for the last 11 years we have mandated a government with supposed policies to alleviate poverty, particularly child poverty. They have had some success, particularly with children. It is a very complex and hotly debated issue, particularly when it comes to statistics. When a country is growing in prsoperity it is difficult to keep the poorest relative to the richest which is why both our countries have seen the gap between rich and poor grow. That said, the Chinese have managed to reduce poverty, relative and absolute with remarkable success.

Do you want to discuss the very real issues of relative and absolute poverty, or do you want an excuse to vent your potty mouth?
