I also don't care for The Dead. I guess that goes along with the DMB thing. They played great live shows.
I love Pink Floyd though. I was raised on Pink Floyd. I remember being four or five years old, sitting next to my father's record player in his room when he wasn't there. He had The Wall and the album art was really dark and discturbing to me. The little nooks and crannies in the wall had all these odd shapes and creatures in them. Some parts looked violent and some were really sexually suggestive.
At that age, I seriously thought the lyrics were "Breaking the law" instead of "Brick in the wall."
I too don't care for Nirvana. I know every Nirvana song, but they never had a big impact on me. They don't represent any staple in my life at all. I can't even bring myself to listen to Nirvana now. I change the station.
Oh...I forgot to mention..
Tool
I love Tool. Their music videos are just beautiful and they gain many of their visual influences from stop-motion animation geniuses The Brothers Quay. If you find you don't like their music, just read their lyrics sometime. Many hard rock bands have drivel for lyrics. I feel that Tool really tries to make meaningful music. Just love them. I also love Alex Grey and I'm realy happy the two have come to harmony.
I don't think I've ever met a person, in person, who said they didn't like Tool.
