So fuckin controversial... I just don't understand why.

What's the difference between skin tight jeans and skin tight cotton? Pretty much ALL women's clothing nowadays (even what are labeled as "work-wear") it's all skin tight. Everything I can find anyway.

So why do leggings specifically get argued about so much when they're really not that different from many other fabric options we currently have in the woman's pants department...

If I see a woman who's at work, and she's wearing leggings, I literally don't think twice about it. It matters 0% to me. Just my opinion, I'm curious about those that differ from mine.

Because men are pigs and can not be held responsible for their actions?

Young men should never be forced to think of women as human beings or how their behavior might cause women discomfort?

Don't think of women's comfort or current trends... Think of the men. And their mothers.

I ain't wearing nothing but yoga pants and Cami tops for the next week .

I think the only difference is some leggings can end up being see through, especially when being stretched. I don't see that happen with jeans.

That's only when someone is wearing the wrong size... Only in those specific instances I can see an employer sending someone home to change, but just for wearing leggings at all? It doesn't make sense to me.

I've seen it happen. At my old job I had a co-worker who preferred to wear leggings. She was wearing them one day, and my boss called me over (I was the supervisor) and asked why I hadn't sent her home to change. I told him that I didn't see anything wrong with her uniform. He asked me to send her home, and I told him that if he had a problem with the way she was dressed, he could tell her himself. He did. I'm still surprised he didn't reprimand me for being insubordinate.

You couldn't see her ass, they weren't see-through at all. She didn't look sexual at all. But, he sent her home. I just don't get it. Maybe I never will...

Wrong size and/or shoddy material, yeah. That's the only reason I can think of to complain. Sometimes leggings are more prone to getting wedged up in someone's bits too, compared to jeans which are a thicker material. Other than that? I got nothin'

Oh, the jean wedgies I've seen :confounded:

I've seen some hardcore cameltoe due to inappropriately fitted jeans. I'm just like, how can you LEAVE IT THERE?!? :scream:

It looks painful as fuck.

I think because leggings per se are tights without feet, hosiery, an underlayer. Sartorially.
Yoga pants are workout wear.

I am thinking I’m not all that into seeing the average dude in leggings alone....so make it fair..ish

ETA, I’d not wear a see through top or skirt either. It’s not a legging thing, it’s a coverage thing with me.

Another ETA...if leggings had pockets, I’d be on that...

I am pissed because men sexualized leggings. You ask any woman wearing leggings and 90% will list comfort/ease of wear as their main motivation for sporting leggings .

My leggings can not be mistaken for tights. The material is thicker than an average t-shirt. A heavy elasticated jersey knit. Almost all of my leggings are black. There is no seeing through, no inappropriate outlines. If I rock a hoodie I am clothed from head to toe. How much fucking clothing do I need to wear to make men understand that I am not presenting as a sexual possibility?

The thing is though, they aren't underwear. They aren't meant to be. They aren't *meant* to be see-through either.

Just putting that out there...

And for the sake of the conversation... I don't prefer to wear these regularly. Well, lately I have been. But I have my reasons which some of you ladies will understand :sun:

I just don't see why it's so controversial for a woman to wear these in public, or even at work. If everything is covered, and the material isn't see-through, I just don't get why they're so offensive.

That's why we need to legalize prostitution, and give these individuals a safe place to work rather than make them walk the street. Then they could wear whatever the fuck they want without worrying about freezing.

And the vast majority of women who publicly wear them, are not street walking prostitutes. They're just going about their day trying to be comfortable.

Cling factor?
I mentioned my male coworker who loves leggings at work. Let’s just say his shirts need to come way down for modesty.
They also tend to whale tail, so are girly plumber butt.

All this said, wear what you want.

That's the thing though, when a man wears them his genitals are basically visible, and that's understandably too far for public situations. When a woman is wearing regular leggings that are the appropriate size, there's no visibility of her genitals. I see more lady crack when women are wearing jeans than leggings, to be fair.

I'm trying to understand because I see the argument made regularly that these pants are not appropriate for work or even really for just being in public.

In my experience, the only issue is people who can't stop sexualizing everything a woman wears.. but my anecdotal experiences aren't evidence. It does seem to be a problem with every generation though, no matter what new article of clothing comes out for women.

I wear leggings most days. Granted, my top will cover my ass. They are way thicker than tights - very warm and very comfy and make it easy when I have to put on high viz.

Anyone at work who has a problem can speak to me about it. I will gladly enter into a discussion :)

Well, looky, looky! She enters the fray! Speaking of which, no way in hell would I confront you on your choice of clothing!
