BBC News - US singer Lena Horne dies aged 92.

She had a good innings and I will always personally remember her for the role in The Wiz which was one of my favourite movies as a kid. A real legend, may she rest in peace.

Yeah, Lena was one of the special ones.
And she sure did have a good run.
One of the most beautiful women in show business.
    And a unique personality.
I saw her, back in my salad days, when she was 65.
She seemed not only 45, but an especially good 45.
    Lena, RIP.

    What a bummer.

She did a classic ABC number on Sesame Street. I remember it from growing up on Sesame Street and have seen it a lot more lately on the Sesame Street ABCs DVD my kids watch fairly regularly. I looked her up on wikipedia a couple of months ago and was amazed to learn she was going strong at 92! Perhaps not so strong after all it seems. :-(

She had a quiet dignity about her born from her succeeding not just because of her musical talent, but because she "looked the part" she was "allowed" to cross the color line. I hope she will be as remembered as much for her dignity in confronting racial bias, as Robinson did in baseball, as well as her prodigious talent. We are not likely to see her equal in voice, and courage anytime soon.

^ Ditto, ditto, ditto. What a voice, what an artist, what a classy dame. I think 'Dignity' was her middle name.

Besides her classic rendition of 'Stormy Weather', I've always liked this: LENA HORNE - TRIBUTE TO A LADY

(There's an amazing film of her singing this somewhere. If anyone can find it, it's worth posting. I couldn't.)
