In the mid 1970 s in Great Britain there was a publication called Forum which I believe was edited by the respected English sex therapist and psychologist Philip Hodson, who now often appears on TV documentaries as an authority and pundit on sexual matters.

Forum once conducted a survey into penis-size which purported to be the largest and most comprehensive study of it s kind ever undertaken. This was the beginning of the academic tide against surveys conducted by Kinsey and later Masters & Johnson who had both concluded that size was of no consequence and therefore irrelevant to women s pleasure. It is now generally held amongst psychologists and sexologists that contrary to these findings, size is, indeed an issue for a large percentage of women, to a greater or lesser degree. (An absolutely exhaustive resource and discussion on why most women do, in fact prefer a large penis can be found at: http://www.penissizedebate.com/contents.htm

In 2003 of course, where women talk openly about what they enjoy sexually, this comes as no surprise - indeed, only three weeks ago, a study at The University of Queensland found from their large sample of female respondents that a majority of women said they enjoyed hardcore pornography! This response would have been unthinkable even a few years ago.
However I digress. One of the salient questions in the now famous Forum survey was: (and Dr Hodson, please excuse my paraphrasing - I do not have the issue to hand)

If you could make your partner s penis larger in only ONE dimension (length OR girth) which would you choose?

From the females who responded to this question, a pretty staggering ninety per cent replied:
Girth.
Now, it doesn t take a statistician to tell me that 90% is a large majority in any vote!
This seems to be born out by discussions with my female friends (not all of whom I have slept with, I must hasten to add!) and although this is totally unscientific, does seem to bear out the findings of the Forum study.
The question I want to pose is:
Was the 90% vote in favour of girth over length just a statistical blip or a genuinely held preference?

Ladies [and interested guys] please cast your vote on the original question:

Q:
If you could make your partner s penis larger in only ONE dimension (length OR girth) which would you choose?

I leave you with a few quotes from The Big Cock Society:

The most authoritative data on cock size was recently published in the March 2003 issue of Playgirl. [btw - I have been unable to locate a copy of this issue - if anyone knows of a transcript of the article, please let me know - thanks, Nick] Only one in every 100 men has a penis that is nine inches or larger. More elusive is the thick one - six inches around or more make up approximately one out of every 1000 of the schlong-sporting guys.

Finding a man with a long and thick mast is like finding a needle in a haystack well, not a needle really!

The Internet porn sites are replete with monster cocks measuring 17 and 18 inches. They don t exist. These cocks have been doctored and digitally enhanced and altered to give you their gigantic and unrealistic size. These websites are dishonest and are really doing a disservice to men s egos and women s expectations the world over. :-/

hung: I know I crossed gender lines when I voted; however I did check girth. The width to me is most vital. While I am proud of my length and also width, I do wish I was a bit wider. An interesting poll. Nice to check back in a week or so and see the results.

JeffS: I would think girth WOULD be more inmportant than length.... Not being a girl I can't speak with authority about how it feels but a wider penis creates more "friction". :D

Krowax: The penis sizedebate page is such a scam anyway. All information is subjective.

Well, I wouldn't say *all* information... Alot of it seems to make a pretty convincing case, and from my own experience and more recent research, it does seem to be born out. Of course, a "preference" is always, by its very nature subjective! And, it seems *more* women than not, prefer a larger penis. Granted, this is not always because they believe a larger penis actually causes more physical pleasure: Many women are simply turned on by the sight of a large member. Much research is needed into this subject.

Krowax: Yes certainly, but check out his "surveys" etc. 10 women asked, 30 women asked. It almost made me wonder if he'd asked sizequeens. And the "ideal penis chart" seems pretty off aswell.

ORCABOMBER: I'm going to be arrogant enough to say that I wouldn't change a thing!

I've also been told that I act like Simon Cowell off American Idol. :D
