Tolkien lovers will know that Bilbo Baggins was an unusual Hobbit who brought the One Ring - the Ring of Sauron - to Hobbiton where he kept it safe until his eleventy eleventh (111th) birthday when he gave it to Frodo, his nephew.

I encourage one and all to read the Hobbit/Fellowship books. Their prose is flowing and poetic, the stories plucked from a fantastic folklore and they open up a lifetime of pleasure even if you aren't a fantasy fan.

7x6andchg: Oh, so he's THE Hobbit...didn't you have a suffix on your name, too? sx, IIRC?

Hapi - glad to see you changed it back to Hapi...now if only I could get it to take just 7x6&C for me - that's how I sign everything anyway. Just does not like that ampersand.

H8Monga: So Pecker's a Hobbit? My aunt bought me The Hobbit years ago but I've never read it (started it and got too wrapped up in school work) :-[

7x6andchg: I'll second Bilbo's suggestion (although it's been YEARS) - read the Hobbit and the trilogy at least once in your life.

7x6andchg: You know what -

I never realized one could change their "screen" name without changing their "actual" name.

As you can see I have adapted a shorter version for myself...plus getting a little of my romance language study in there...

If not for this topic I wouldn't have noticed....

OT: I have read The Hobbit and The Lord of the Rings several times in five languages. Tolkien's books never go out of style nor lose their charm. (I've read The Silmarillion only in English.) Apart from Shakespeare's works, Tolkien's works are my top recommendation.

Hapi Chubmonger: Your screen name is a highly personal choice. Choose something that describes you or who you aspire to be. If you are 'hapi' with it, that's what matters.

H8Monga: Me thinks I be hapi with Hapi. I think it's carved a niche here.

Glad I could be of service.

5 languages?! That's an experience!

You mean his eleventy-first birthday!

Incidentally, Tolkien's eleventy-first birtday was this year.
