My religious feelings are personal. I don't discuss them because I respect others right to believe as they choose. Moreover in sharing my own experiences and feelings on the matter would disparage the views of others. I don't discuss religion at LPSG or anywhere else for that matter outside of my synagogue.
It's a very simple easy rule to live by, think of how differently the world would be if everyone followed the same example.

This comment puzzles me. Religion is supposed to be the whole basis of one's life. Why on earth would one's feelings about something so fundamental be kept constantly under wraps?

Surely, adults ought to be able to discuss starkly different world views. And I think it is extremely important to do exactly that.

At this point, the same guy as always comes in and says something intelligent, wise, kind, and compassionate.

Oh, you mean like this?

Then somebody who agrees with him puts up a post telling him how wise, kind, compassionate, and intelligent he is.

Then they all ignore the message and each start back tearing the others' throats out.

My you're the prescient one, aren't you, Hickipoo? Are you my son, by any chance? :biggrin1:

What is interesting is why the search for the meaning of life (either of faith or atheism sensibilities) is too incendiary for reasoned conversation. Even the very best at it on this site get angry about it albeit in a passive aggressive manner.

So, Hick, why do they get angry?

I think when it comes to religion, you should live by example. You should present yourself as you believe, and not be a front with bad examples hiding in your shadows. Not like some of thie historical Popes who had children or died on the top of their mistress. If someone asks me what I do, I tell them. One amusing story I got from a former Jehovah's Witness was he grew to dislike them. I asked him, "why did you quit". He said "The discipline of it was good, and its the major thing I got out of it." I don't see too many people who live by thier own example. Certainly the the religious George Bush. Certainly not Jesse Jackson. Cetrtainly (etc)....

I'm not amused by this "Chuck Norris" material. You have to settle on this for your ultimate punch line?

I got some people totally twisted out of shape for dismissing the Church of the SunGenius as "hackwork religion". Some people don't know where the joke ends or begins.

From that group:

My biggest issue right now is that I believe being gay is a life style choice, not something you are born into. This is my personal opinion that being gay is not a healthy life style choice, but I have never done anything to try and convince a devout gay man of this.

Ugh. I don't make any public judgments about religion. I just say that "it's not for me." Some people prefer to impose their morality on others. I hope that they will someday see how harmful this is.

This is a bit touchy.

HB would kill me for not paying attention to the spirit of this thread so I'm going to open a can of worms by starting another thread.
