Oh yes, star, let's please blame people who were born in the inner-city. If you had any idea what many of those peoples' lives were like you would not have a damn thing to say.

And, just for the record, I don't think you could describe ACORN offices as "liberal dominated." Black people do vote overwhelmingly Democratic, but they also tend to be very socially conservative on issues like gay marriage and abortion. They're hardly the "hard Left."

I do enjoy that you just let the points I made about conservatives being ignorant and religious vis-a-vis their liberal counterparts slide. I'm glad you know it's true.

In generaly, I don't largely identify with either group.

Liberals tend to have more education and are more intellectual.

Conservatives who are very intelligent tend to be more radical (buddhists, monkish-like folk, atypical conservatives , etc...not many of them...)

I don't disagree.

But where does that get you?

Conservatives who are very intelligent tend to be more radical (buddhists, monkish-like folk, atypical conservatives , etc...not many of them...)

Right.

Hmm. Has anybody seen the people that hang out in the liberal-dominated ACORN facilities?

Compare those to the 'radical right' fringe of Tea Partiers with jobs and high school diplomas..many times college and beyond.....no contest.

Exactly. Even with the degrees and diplomas, they still somehow find "Socialist" and "Fascist" to be synonymous, think a snowstorm in the winter time discredits global warming, and look up to a woman who says "nucular". So much for radical right education.

What I mean is that liberals often have very loose morals and aren't bothered much by them, whereas many conservatives want to have them, but end up despicably hypocritical. But there are very conservative folks who are very intelligent, but they often to be "atypical" conservatives: new-agish, buddhist-like, monkish, etc (they're different than their liberal counterparts because of their adherence to a strict moral code)

How thrilling. Unfortunately, you've failed to provide any links to these studies of Japanese christians. Therefore, until you do provide legitimate links, please forgive me for not believing your post has a soupçon of truth to it until I get a chance to read those "studies."

Forgive me if I assumed that you were able to use Google. Fortunately, I wasn't concerned with you being thrilled or whether you thought I'd failed.

It's in my interest to believe that atheists are smarter, but I doubt that the study mention by the OP proves this. I personally think that the more people educate themselves about religion and the origins of Christianity, the less they'll believe in it. But I might be giving people too much credit.

Obviously you're not aware that most of us go out of our way to include links to back up claims made in our posts so others can quickly access the source of the information and ascertain if it comes from www.Proud Japanese Christian Families.jap or possibly a news source a bit less slanted. Otherwise people tend to come across like Starpooper, who is famous for making up lies and pulling them out of his butt.

Take note:
JustAsking was able to provide those links. He wasn't asked to. He had not posted anything on the subject. Even more important he was adult eough not to have a big ol' hissy fit over it.

Now go out and have a good day and do something nice for someone.

To be honest, I've stopped putting in the effort to provide links to stuff because no one seemed to care. I'm a little surprised that someone actually asked.

Forgive me if I assumed that you were able to use Google . . . .
Dude, it is not incumbent upon us to do your homework, especially when posting such weird, wacky, obscure findings. You can put up a link, or the 200 or 20 or 2.5 people who may be interested in your post can waste their time trying to track down data that may or may not exist. Do the math. Capiche?

One doesn't have to be a fundamentalist Christian to believe that the totality of existence is beyond the human mind's capacity to understand. In fact to deny such a thing is pretty ignorant. There will always be a knowledge gap. Existence, and nonexistence is quite incomprehensible really.

Attributing too much of this knowledge gap to some higher power is ignorant. To buy completely into what is clearly a man-made method of coping with our lack of understanding is stupid.

To pretend that the gap is completely within the power of the human mind to comprehend is also willfully ignorant.

Believe it or not there is a huge middle ground between Creationist and atheist. And you'll find plenty of rational thinkers along the spectrum, not merely on the atheist side...I'm so glad I don't live in a place that spurns religion and spirituality as the opiate of the masses. Self-importance is the cocaine of the masses.

EDIT: I should amend...agnosticism seems far more rational to me than atheism.
I love this post, Qua. Great observations, and well expressed.

The "self-importance" line seems particularly apt for this site.

Thanks, I was proud of that one. I've spent a long time rectifying my Catholic upbringing and philosophical background with the beliefs I've been exposed to that also make plenty of sense. That's the best synthesis I've come up with.

Well, I know a lot of recovering Catholics, and I think you'll be okay.

If not, there's always liquor.

Give me a good Samaritan over a humanist any day. The former will offer immediate assistance, the latter won't even cross the road, but will promise you he will bring the problem up at the next meeting of his ever so concerned friends and colleagues. May even start a charitable trust on your behalf.
