The American Right are driven by the overt use of fear and the amazing impossibility that there is no legitimate response other than their own. I cherish my opinions and the opportunities to make them I alos feel that it is not only my duty to accept others opinions whether agreeing with them or not, make me a better human being. And while I have many friends who are a) conservative and/or b) religious, I find little compassion for the overwhelming need they have to convert others to their own "my-way-or-th-highway" thinking. The difference is that conservativism, like the Religious Right is fundamentally enthralled with trying to convert others to their way of thinking. I rarely find liberals who actually claim to WANT those whose opinions who differ to convert to our side. Enjoy your opinions whichever side you are on just stay the fuck out of my face. Who made you king of the world? Without positive, no negative. Without right, no wrong. How about accepting difference and working from there.

The reality is that many prominent liberals resort to the most vicious, hateful attacks on good people who simply want less government, etc. My guess is that many of you liberals here have never seen an attack on a conservative that you did NOT believe was justified. If it were up to you conservative media (such as Fox News) would be silenced forever as you are opposed to their ideas. Liberalism is the closest thing to fascism that we have in the USA.

Romney is just a bad April fool's joke on America.

I beg to differ. That title belongs to Santorum.

As far as the liberals/left wingers being "less" tolerant? Can't really say that.

I've seen plenty of closed-mindedness, insult throwing, and overall pettiness coming from both sides of the spectrum.

Neither side is "innocent."

That's what the author of the article below (linked) says.

I think it's probably accurate. Using this forum as one example, one can find many posts by liberals here that just seethe with hatred of Republicans. My suggestion to those posters would be to stop calling them names and saying vicious things about them and, instead, engage them in a respectful dialogue. I encounter more than a few liberal posters who consider themselves to be morally superior to conservatives and who speak of conservatives as if they're evil, sub-human cockroaches that should just be squashed. As they say, nobody hates like the enlightened, tolerant, loving left!

Here's an excerpt from the linked article below:

The new research found that instead of engaging in civil discourse or debate, fully 16% of liberals admitted to blocking, unfriending or overtly hiding someone on a social networking site because that person expressed views they disagreed with. That's double the percentage of conservatives and more than twice the percentage of political moderates who behaved like that.

Blog: Liberal intolerance, by the numbers

hmm is kinda hard believe folks who are so anti-everything are the folks for liberals to emulate when ya talking tolerance.

anti-choice
anti-woman
anti-science
anti-gay
anti-poor folks
anti-black people
anti-non-americans
anti- etc.,etc.

i would be more willing to discuss calmly if i didn't believe republicans wouldn't round my kind up if given the chance.

Love it! MickeyLee with the second post in the thread proves the article about the narrow minded intolerant left correct. Fucking beautiful.

"round my kind up" ... what kind would that be mickey, stupid?

The truth hurts, doesn't it? It's interesting that the first personal attack in this thread came from a Republican/conservative. I guess personal attacks are all you have to resort to when you are so ashamed/embarrassed by your party.

I suppose you feel that you do not make hateful attacks?

How does this prove anything, other than you are grasping at straws?

MG doesn't like me very much.

on topic to the thread... why should i be tolerant of the ideas of people who are not tolerant of me as a human being? why should i be held to a higher standard of enlightened discourse?

the solid truth is this.. if i got everything i wanted politically the average conservative could go on living their lives completely unaffected. if the conservative right were given full sway.. my life, as i live it and the "who" that i am would be criminal/punishable/gone.

good hearts can not be tolerant of oppression. i won't apologize for, or back down from my position. is not just self interests, is a general compassion for other human being that keeps me honest to my truth.

hate won't balance the budget. sorry, guys.

Oh how I long for the days before Rush Limbaugh and Fox News! Do any of you remember those days??? Do we remember a time that we asked the question, "Is it good for America?" I voted for Ronald Reagan. At the time, I truly felt that the very long term Democratic control over the country NEEDED to come to an end. But I had no idea that he would give the military a blank check and run up the largest deficit the country had experienced since the 2nd World War. Sorry -- that's not really relevant to the thread. However.........

The day AFTER Bill Clinton was elected to his 2nd term I watched Rush Limbaugh when he was on TV and he began his program with these words, "America held hostage......day 1." I was stunned -- stunned! Never before had I heard any "news" commentator or prominent media person actually put such a spin on the leader of the United States which made him sound like "the enemy." And then FOX news came into being. I won't go there because I think the FCC should have shut them down or labeled them an "entertainment" channel as opposed to a "news" channel -- BUT -- that's what MONEY and political clout will get you in a free society!

Then -- I watched the Republican downright hatred for Bill Clinton pound and pound away at him until they found his achilles heel and then THEY -- yes I believe THEY put us into a constitutional crisis by moving to impeach him! There were a lot of Presidents I didn't care for but rarely had I seen a move to "oust" someone over sexual indiscretions (and what a bunch of hypocrits lined up salivating over THAT mess!) A compassionate nation would have insisted he get counseling -- but impeachment??? I'd like to see GW try to this day to set foot in Great Britain and not be accused of war crimes for waterboarding!

While I try to be tolerant of "opposing" opinions --- the one thing I simply will NOT tolerate is being told that I am "the enemy!" GW Bush opposing John Kerry in 2004 said in a speech, "those who vote for the Democrats might as well be voting for the terrorists!" I once again sat looking at my TV with my mouth agape. But then I remembered that those of us who opposed the 2 wars were point blankly told we were "unpatriotic!" Huh!

While we may have a different viewpoint on just where the nation needs to move and how we need to get there -- don't you ever ever tell me that I am "less" than a true blue American for how I think. Quote me -- quote me those prominent Democratic office holders who have stood up and said that a vote for the Republicans was "anti" American? I'll be interested to read those quotes!

A bit off topic, but isn't it odd that the study just reinforces what conservatives say about liberals? I mean, it wasn't liberal talk show hosts who instituted caller screening, it isn't a liberal TV host with a mike button that cuts off anyone talking who he doesn't like. I also would like a coherent definition of 'liberal' according to the tea party, anyone who disagrees with them is a liberal, I have even had tea party fanatics call so called rinos (republican in name only), liberal. I'll bet the study is somewhat suspect.
