I used to have a membership before Covid. The one I went to in Florida was decent. Membership was around $150 or so a month which made it one of the pricier gyms in the area. The big advantage I saw was that it tended to not be as crowded as other gyms. I can’t remember if they put a cap on the number of members but I can only recall a couple of occasions where I ever had to wait for equipment. They did tend to keep the place, especially the locker room, very clean compared to other local gyms.

What are they offering in return for those monthly fees? I just checked their website and the location nearest to me (as a practical matter, too far away at about 40 miles) charges $229 monthly for the lowest level membership!

Exclusivity and a higher staff to member ratio mostly. Like I mentioned earlier, members tended to not have to wait for equipment when I was there. They also supplied complimentary towels and toiletries like razors, toothbrushes etc. at the one I went to.

I hit my local Planet Fitness at 5:45 am and, even pre-Covid, I've never had to wait for any piece of equipment.

Razors? Towels? Toothbrushes? I can buy a couple of years worth (or more!) with the money I save in just one month.

Thanks guys for the replies. I do know that the lowest price for me - for basic membership - is like $90 a month. If I went a level higher, then it would give me access to some of their clubs in cities close by. I'd be fine with the $90 a month, I was just curious as to what the clientele was like, what the staff was like, etc. I'll need to make up my mind soon so I can at least use the club for about half the price for this month.

At least at the one I went to, the staff were all very friendly. The members tended to be older and less diverse than at other gyms I’ve been too. There was about en equal mix of men and women but the members were mostly middle age or older and white with a few younger members at times.

It's spoiled other gyms for me.

Pros: They keep up the gym. Everything is clean, I don't feel gross using the locker room like I do at other gyms. They have tons of squat racks that are open as long as they aren't doing their Alpha classes. They really have every kind of equipment you can use to hit your goals

Cons: It does get crowded. They have a lot of classes and since they provide a daycare a lot of parents go there. Any time after working hours is going to be packed. If you can work out off hours you'll love it because you'll have everything to yourself.

If you have more questions let me know.

Wouldn’t that be location specific? I’d ask in local social media from Reddit to Nextdoor. And FB.

From the POV of an applicant, they are fond of not being clear around money. My state has a law requiring job posting list salary/hourly.
LifeTime fitness has some almost insulting number posted but when you talk to the hiring manager it turns into “well, it depends on how many hours a week you are available, how many sessions you do (massage), what you sell.” But still nothing that allows you to compare to a current or competing position.

Not being clear about rates, fees, etc made it simple for me to say no.
