I have a lot of odd theories about what's wrong with this country, none of which I can support with scientific data.

IMHO, television is only partly to blame. Our education system is a mess and NCLB has only made it worse. We need to go back to having state teachers colleges. Doctors go to med school, lawyers go to law school, and dentists go to dental school. For some reason, in the 1970's state teacher colleges got sucked into the vortex of liberal arts education. Around the same time people lost respect for teachers. Why? Because they were no longer seen as professionals. It didn't help that we started producing a lesser quality of educator as well.

The major societal change that occurred almost simultaneously was that people stopped being parents to their children and started being friends, best friends. I have a friend whose mom used to smoke pot with her at the kitchen table when she was in high school. WTF?!? It may be easier to be a friend than a parent but that has a tendency to create a sorry excuse for a human being. Not to mention an incorrigible brat who disrupts the classroom.

I'm sure many folks will disagree with me, and may even think I sound like an elitist snob. That's okay, it's just my theory, not an amendment to the Constitution.

You know, nj, I never really thought of it like that but I think you're on to someting here.

Schlocky, trashy TV that appeals to the lowest common denominator mentality is probably what's at the root of so many of our problems in the US. Anti-intellectualism made popular and its getting worse, not better. I mean, schlocky TV just encourages viewers to be vacuous, uninquisitive, voyeuristic and just plain stupid.

Those court shows are probably the worst. Just trashy fights and conflicts. And "Roseanne" was awful. I never understood what people saw in that show.

Buddy, I wasn't being serious. My "big dick boasting" is for sexual fun only. There is nothing perfect about me.

I've been reading through your posts on this thread. I have to say that I do agree with on a lot of what you say.

Job interviews, for the most part, are more about personality, business politics and "who-you-know-and-who-you-blow"! I've noticed this too. I've never been good at "schmoozing"...

I don't fully agree with your statements concerning university degrees. Advanced degrees are not just handed out (in most cases:rolleyes:). I had to work damn hard for my advanced degrees and go into loads of debt. Moreover, I do know some people with advanced degrees who are not getting ahead financially. University degrees can work against you just as much as they can advance you. That's why a lot of young people should wait a few years before heading off to college and spend mega money. I probably should've done this. I would have picked a different major. I should've had my job as a psychiatric attendant when I finished high school, then after being fired from it, I'd go to college but major in something other than psychology. Not sure what though. Then, really, at the time I got my computer degree I had no way of knowing that the IT field was going to change so much, requiring knowledge of 5 or 6 different programming languages, DBA capabilities AND networking knowledge - and that's to get ANY job in the field! That and all the outsourcing, and working on 6-month contracts rather than having a steady job that will last. At this point, I'm not sure what I want to do, I've thought about going back to get training in computer hardware. I've thought about massage therapy. I've even thought about cosmetology school! I'm trying to figure out a job that I can do, that will not be outsourced! And I want something steady, not a field where I'll be laid off every 6 months!

Anyways, we don't live in a society where one can be paid to entertain people with one's intelligence. In fact, American culture is more anti-intellectual than it's ever been. It probably will continue down that route.

By the way, most financially successful people have high EQ's, not IQ's! I think this may be the case. I have a high IQ, but a below-average EQ...

Also, ultra-rich people are not happy anyways. It's all an illusion. The happiest people in life are the those we least expect to be. Some of that may be, but I know for a fact that I'm happier when I have money than when I don't. Now, I've never been ultra-rich, but I have been middle-class, and had a steady job for some years, and while I wasn't extremely happy, I didn't have the worries about am I going to be able to pay the rent, etc. that I have now.

Arf!!!

And so said 2 hot ones!!!

You sure as as shit don't mean me, who has had massive doubts over personal worth when younger, being out on a scene, which rewarded muscled, tone good looking people, over anyone else, you can imagine what that attitude did to someone with a 34" chest and a 27" waist even tho they were 6'3".... someone who bought their t shirts from kids shops in an attempt to get some kind of fit... A person who could quite easily have become Bulimic I was trying to feed myself up so quickly...

That same person who never had more than two dates with a guy because they always revolved around the contents of my underpants and not what I had to offer emotionally...

... no my life was a piece of piss, honey, and no-one's ever suffered like you have or ever will....

I said it before I'll say it again....get over yourself!

So there are 2 sides to everything! Quelle surprise!

It's a shame a matter that affects people cannot be discussed without rude and insulting posts, rather than either a 'pass-by' or a post to point out the opposing side. You obviously have a lot of anger on the issues raised.

So I shall not deign to assume how things are for you, but hence it would be civil if you did the same...

I don't need to 'get over myself' I was merely sharing my opinion based on my experience on this board over the last 5 weeks.

So don't presume to know (or dismiss) my shit, I shan't presume to know (or dismiss) yours.

You are worthy because you were born. You are alive, you are breathing. That is reason enough to feel grateful you are who you are.

Peace of mind was with you when you were born.
You were born with your gifts, it is what you make of them.

Abuse can screw with that inner peace. It can delay your ability to see yourself, but through acceptance of self, you can get over it.

As for looks, they are important to some.
I am a very big girl and have never had a problem "getting some". The reason for that is that I am confident. Sure, I don't like my nose, don't like some of my tattoos anymore, don't like my size but I am alive. My ability to be, is my greatest confidence.

My confidence shines through and makes me attractive and sexy.

Why am I confident when I have things about my appearance I don't like? I will change what I can and accept what I cannot change.

You sound like you have some good qualities there. Do you actually want to be like the others that have to prove they don't suck? You will have to turn things around but stay who you are. Have u ever thought that these other people may actually envy the way you are in your thinking etc? They are just following the herd like sheep. You on the other hand are unique!
Your humongous wang is also unique, I must say!

I like to use myself as an example of why crazy black people get jailed longer: WE KNOW THE TRUTH! SOYLENT GREEN IS PEOPLE!

I didn't mean it that way. I know college degrees aren't given away, and that much hard work is required to get one. What I meant was, that there seems to be a conspiracy among employers to require a degree even for jobs that aren't technical enough that one is needed. Also, you can have degree in something unrelated to the field for the job you are seeking, and yet still get the job. Most employers around here require some kind of training before you can go to work. Anywhere from a week or two to more than a month. They opened a new "work force center" at a local community college. It doesn't teach you anything about the job you are going to do. It's just all about politically correct behavior on the job.
It just seems to me that you have to pay your dues to a college to even get a job. You have to endure so much crap that has nothing to do with your ability to do that job. That's why I said college is just another tax.
Not always, but many times I think it's just that. A piece of paper that lets employers and the government know that you spent big bucks for the right to work. I am just sick to death of the politics in employment and most everything else too. You have "buy" a frigging job now, just being willing to work isn't enough. I'm sick of the butt kissers and those who "know somebody" getting all the good jobs and perks. Then people like me work their butt off for nothing and can't seem to do any better. I'm just get very angry when I think about this.

I know your comment about the "perfect cock" was a joke. I just said what I did to see whose crank I could twist. There are so many on here who do think a big cock makes them something special. They are always bragging about it, or about how smart, how big a job, how good looking, how many partners, how hard they work, etc. I just get sick of it. There are more condescending attitudes on here than there are on capitol hill. However, most of it comes from a select few who think they are better than anyone else, and don't mind telling us so in various ways...

I feel ya, buddy. I do indeed agree with you. I sympathize with you.

Thanks for your brutal honesty. If more people could be honest about what they really feel, our world would be a teenie weenie bit better.

If that's you in your avatar you aren't fat, just fluffy. Seriously, many women myself included, like a man with some meat on his bones because it gives us something to hold onto whilst screaming in passion. :naughty::flirt::05:

Mmm, I beg to differ bigbull29 :hitit::wink:

University degrees can work against you just as much as they can advance you. Damn, have you been reading my journal or just eavesdropping on my phone calls to friends. That's why a lot of young people should wait a few years before heading off to college and spend mega money. :yup: I agree. There is a small contingent who are doing a year abroad after high school or even doing habitat for humanity or peace corps work for a year before starting college.

Anyways, we don't live in a society where one can be paid to entertain people with one's intelligence. In fact, American culture is more anti-intellectual than it's ever been. It probably will continue down that route. I've noticed this as well. I blame schlock tv to some degree. Think about it, Roseanne made being trailer trash seem normal. All those ridiculous court shows, Jerry Springer and his ilk pander to the lowest common denominator of American society.

I have a theory, when television first came out it was expensive. Only the wealthy and middle class had tv's. These people were usually college educated, so the few shows that were on were geared toward a higher intellect. Why do you think there were so many quiz shows on back then? As the price of television came down and the lower class or poor could afford them the quality of programming decreased incrementally.

By the way, most financially successful people have high EQ's, not IQ's!
That is so true!

Also, ultra-rich people are not happy anyways. It's all an illusion. The happiest people in life are the those we least expect to be.

This entire post turned me on physically and intellectually. Damn!
You now how to get a rise out of a bull.

That's really me in the avatar (the last time I checked, it was me LOL)

Whatireallywant, I wanted to tell you that I wasn't targeting people like you in my one comment. I was targeting rich Christians, who, in direct contradiction of the Gospels' teachings, justify their materialistic ways and love for money,

By the way, I do believe that life was a little better for you when you had more dough.
