Reading personal experiences here got me to googling average lifetime sex partner statistics. They vary quite widely, the most recent number being shockingly low:

There is plenty of anti-gay material on the web and the above link I gave seemed to want to use the 46 average lifetime partners for gay men against gay marriage. Seems like an argument for it to me! But then a 1997 study of older gay males found the most frequent report was between 100 and 500 lifetime partners. Of course, the older the respondent the more years to rack up numbers. My own numbers are something like 100 lifetime fucking partners at least 200 more casual oral/jackoff etc., and anecdotally this does seem to be typical of men I know. From your experience and that of your acquaintances, which of these statistics seem more and less plausible?

I know of two friends who've both had over 1000 partners. It was not a new partner every week but a new partner every day or two. And on some days, they had several new partners just by going to sex parties.

four for women is definitely BS... but for the men its probably pretty accurate. the majority of guys just dont get laid that often... i read somewhere that like 10% of men sleep with 90% of the women, the "alpha males" i guess.

I agree. The average guy doesn't seem to get that many women, it's only a handful of guys that seem to have access to a lot of sex. I see this with my male friends who are single and young/successful, yet most of them only get dates every once in a while, the vast majority of which don't lead to sex. For me, I am cancelling dates left and right just because I can't keep up lol. It's definitely easier to get dates as a woman.

Absolutely! I don't know if it's just a few of the men who ask the majority of the women out on dates, but when I'm single, it's raining men. There's always more men asking for dates than time to date them.

Depends on the country. The Australian self-reported average is 13, which is one of the highest in the world. Different cultural reasons: a conservative country (the US) versus a liberal country, the impact of religion (Australia is irreligeous) and so on.

I stopped racking up numbers for the sake of it years ago, I guess that's the point when I became self confident enough not to worry, or just mature.

There are a lot of women who never go on a date at all, & most guys use a scattergun approach - throw enough bait, you'll eventually get a bite - although I could never understand those tossers in the UK & USA who hit on a woman when her boyfriend goes to get a drink.

I think we're sometimes at risk of confusing "a lot of sex" with "a lot of sexual partners" — someone in a monogamous relationship, including a serial monogamist, can be having lots and lots of sex but not lots and lots of partners.
