Hey everyone, myself and family are stuck in lockdown and I've been trying to think of questions to post in the forums as a way of keeping myself occupied and sane.

Here we go, this is for both the women and men of lpsg.

All my life I've always burped a lot, I mean pretty excessively. They're always loud big belches, bigger than you'd expect to hear from a guy never mind a woman and mostly involuntary. Over the years I've spoken to doctors about it, some think I might suffer from meganblaze syndrome, others suggest it may be due to the way I drink, what I drink, how I eat, because I'm a heavy smoker, because I chew gum etc. Other doctors have suggested it may be a combination of meganblaze and everything else. Whichever they've all said it's most likely that the route is the way my throat works and it takes in a lot of air and medically there's nothing really to worry about so this isn't a question looking for a solution, it seems that I'm stuck with it and that's that.
My question is more about offending people as I burp or belch frequently and wherever I am, trying to hold them in just makes it worse when they do come out.
I'm pretty thick skinned so it doesn't particularly worry me but it certainly appears to offend other people, I understand that people won't automatically realise I can't help it but even so when I've gone to the trouble of trying to explain myself when I've had the opportunity people still appear to think it's deliberate or something. Even some of my closest girlfriends feel embarrassed when we're out together which I do understand but again makes me feel awkward, so really I guess my question is kinda How would you feel or react if you were either in my company or happened to be at a restaurant, bar or anywhere really and heard me burping? Would you automatically be offended, would you stop to think there may be more to it and I actually can't help it? Or maybe you'd just find it amusing? I'm just interested to see a more general opinion from my friends here if that's ok X

I've never had a problem with a woman burping or farting loudly. How often do you burp? My wife has an intestinal problem that causes her to fart quite often. When we are at a restaurant and she has to fart, she will try to do it quietly but sometimes it comes out loud. At home she lets them rip.

I guess socially awkward situation comes up there is that initial reaction of ‘oh how rude’. Once i realized that it was not an attention getter then i would process in my brain that it was a condition they could not help themselves with and i would not focus on it after that.

If I'm having a really gassy episode I would burp every few minutes hunni, I don't have trouble with my bottom tho it's just the belching X

I knew a guy in college who had aerophagia. He unconsciously gulped air when he was nervous then belched like crazy. It smelled so bad he had to ride in the back seat if he was in a car with others.

It was considered a nervous disorder. He knew it and was seeing a psychiatrist to get help. Gulping was compulsive and unconscious and belching uncontrollable. Nice guy. Fun to be around. Could not stop no matter how much we tried to put him at ease. Turned out we weren't the problem.

I don't know what his outcome was. He was still struggling with it when we all graduated and split. That was over 35 years ago.

I wasn't offended. He was a cool guy who had a good sense of humor about it even though he hated having belching fits. Like you he hated having to explain his condition with others. I think he was glad to have friends/classmates who understood once he educated us.

Man he could chuck a frisbee a long way! He was quite adept with the hacky sac, too.

If we were at someone's home or at a dive bar having drinks, I'd probably think it was funny. If it were at a restaurant or during a meal, I'd think it was rude AF. If I knew it was something you couldn't control, I'd be more forgiving, but would hope you wouldn't rip them during meals.

Yes of course hunni x
Hmm...well...have you tried a gut cleanse. Like a serious fast where you try to reset your gut biome? I had really bad reflux but I did a fast for 5 days and I feel like that helped so much. Also sugar is a serious inflammatory and will contribute to reflux and digestive issues. Here is one article that may give you some ideas. I believe that taking antacids is OK short term but doesnt solve the root problem...

Have you had yourself checked for a hiatal hernia? My Dad had to have a PET scan of his heart, and they said he had a lot of gas that interfered with the view. They gave him something to calm him down, and then they said "Do you know you have a hernia?"

He did not. Sure enough, he had a Type 1 that's not that serious. But it could cause gassiness, excessive burping and sometimes nausea. But it comes and goes. The doctor said that it pops in and out, so it's not that dangerous.

At his age he has no intention of fixing anything. He claims spare parts are hard to find for his model.

Thanks, no I've not been checked for a hernia.
Tbh I've always been like this most of my life, as you can imagine it's led to a fair few awkward moments over the years especially when I've been at like really posh restaurants or at events. I'm there all dressed up trying to look the part and then suddenly a huge loud belch erupts from me Lol X

In some cultures that's a compliment to the chef!

Just tell them that, and they'll leave you alone. If you're loud enough they may send the chef out to meet you personally!
