Here is our Second May Contest.....

The Best Lockdown Drink Recipe... Prize $100

I don't know about the rest of you but my alcohol consumption is considerably UP since this lockdown started.

I usually do not drink at home but for some reason, I am now good for min 1 glass per day. I am not proud of this, just being honest. The most enjoyable part of drinking during lockdown has been cocktail hours on Zoom/Facetime with my friends. This is something I've never done before and actually have come to really recommend for anyone who is feeling lonely or isolated. (The Zoom call, not the alcohol so much... ha)

Here is how this will work:

Step 1: Post your Favorite Drink Recipe

It can be whatever you like (even non-alcoholic or a smoothie.) This is open to everyone and it's meant to be fun. If you have photos or even videos are yourself making or drinking it, feel free to include them.

The Deadline for your Drink Recipe is May 10th.

Step 2: We Will Pick The Best Recipes To Face Off in a Final

Step 3: The LPSG Community Will Vote For a Winner

Pretty simple stuff. Any questions fire away.

Note... The Prize of $100 is for Gold Members. If a Non-Gold member wins it will be $50 plus an LPSG Gold Membership. Good luck and GET MIXING! :p

  • 1/2 ripe nectarine/peach/mango (your pick), sliced
  • 3/4 ounce simple syrup
  • 2 Rosemary sprigs, plus additional for garnish
  • 1 1/2 ounces Dry Gin
  • 1/2 ounce vodka
  • 3/4 ounce Campari
  • 3/4 ounce fresh juice from 1 lemon (Meyer if available)
  • Club soda or tonic water (depending on your sweetness preference)
Directions
  1. In a cocktail shaker, muddle your fruit, simple syrup, and rosemary sprig. Add gin, vodka, Campari, and lemon juice, fill shaker with ice, and shake until well chilled (about 15 seconds.) I usually let it sit for about a minute or two to get super cold - especially during these hot months.

  2. Fill a highball with ice. Fine-strain cocktail into serving glass. Top with soda/tonic and garnish with additional rosemary.

The Blueberry Quarantini

A variation on one of my hometown specialties—served best with some fine West Michigan lakeshore blueberries during the growing season, but delicious any time of the year. Especially when you're sitting behind your desk waiting for the clock to tick to a 3 or a 7.

Ingredients:
  • 3 units of a floral dry gin (e.g., Hendricks)
  • 0.5 unit of a white vermouth (e.g., Dolin)
  • 0.5 unit of Michigan Blueberry Liqueur from Long Road Distillers, or an equivalent
  • Three whole, fresh Michigan blueberries
  • One slice of fresh lemon peel
Directions:
  1. Stir the gin and vermouth over ice. Strain into a cocktail glass.
  2. Add the blueberry liqueur. Stir gently.
  3. Add three fresh blueberries into the glass or (preferably) on a skewer.
  4. Twist the lemon peel over the glass then garnish.
Sip and enjoy.

The Not-So-Old Fashioned

This is a take on the classic Old Fashioned and Sazerac cocktails that adds a bright citrus twist from the orange and Grand Marnier, plus some extra sweetness from the cherry. The absinthe rinse gives it some added depth in the aroma and aftertaste. I recommend using a strong, smoky whiskey, but that’s entirely up to you.

Ingredients:
2 oz of your favorite whiskey
A few dashes of absinthe
A splash of Grand Marnier
A few dashes of orange bitters
2 maraschino cherries
1 sugar cube
A slice of orange peel
1 large ice cube

Instructions:
Muddle the bitters, 1 cherry, and the sugar cube in the bottom of a chilled old fashioned glass. Pour a little bit of absinthe on the orange peel and use it to rinse the sides of the glass. Add the ice cube and pour your whiskey over top. Use a bar spoon to float the Grand Marnier. Garnish with the remaining cherry and the orange peel, and enjoy!

The Lovely and Simple Irish Cactus:

Ingredients
  • 2 ounces Irish Cream
  • 1 ounces of Tequila Blanco
Steps to Make It
  1. Gather the ingredients. Adjust less or more of either based on taste. I personally prefer a ratio of about 2 to 0.75 Irish cream to tequila Blanco.

  2. In an old-fashioned glass filled with ice, pour the Irish cream and tequila.

  3. Stir well.

  4. Serve and enjoy!

Caipirinha

319875_original.jpg

Ingredients:
- 2 limes, chopped into wedges, plus extra lime wedges to serve (optional)
- 6 tablespoons golden caster sugar
- 200ml cachaça
- Few handfuls crushed ice

Method:
1. Put the lime wedges in a large jug with the sugar, then use a muddler or the end of a rolling pin to break them down. Release as much juice from the wedges as possible, and let it mix with the sugar to create a syrup – you can also do this with a large pestle and mortar. Discard the lime peel.

2. Divide the syrup and cachaça between four glasses, then top with the crushed ice. Serve garnished with lime wedges, if you like.

The Vesper, from the maestro of big dick energy himself:
"Three measures of Gordon's, one of vodka, half a measure of Kina Lillet. Shake it very well until it's ice-cold, then add a large thin slice of lemon peel. Got it?"
("Casino Royale", Chapter 7)

The full recipe:
- 3 ounces of gin (e.g. Tanqueray)
- 1 ounce of vodka (grain, 50%)
- 1/2 ounce of vermouth (Lillet Blanc)
- Garnish: lemon peel

1. Glance over at the absolute bombshell to your right
2. Have the barman combine the ingredients in a cocktail shaker
3. Shake well with cracked ice and strain into a chilled cocktail glass
4. Garnish with lemon peel
5. Sip and proceed to do what Bond does best ;)
