Locker room visit causes different feelins about size

I posted most of this messge in a thread about privacy in locker rooms and whether it was growing or shrinking in the USA and what that means. But, after I posted it, I thought that the theme of it might be an intersting thread by itself.

I dont go to a gym regularly (see my photos... LOL). and most i have been in seem very concerned with privacy.

But I was on a business trip a while back and stayed in a hotel for a week. It had a small gym. And a sauna and steam room in the men's locker room. This smaller locker room had no privacy at all, and open showers. Since it was a hotel up in the wintery north, I didn't have a bathing suit or anything with me, so I used a steam room/sauna nude for the first time. (30 yo here). And found that every night I was down there, several other guests were using it as well. Most were nude also, for the same reason I guess.

Anyway, to the point of my post! It was actually an interesting expirience, given that size is a preoccupation of my fantasy life. I was very surprised to find that A LOT of the men looks not only smaller than me but VERY tiny. It seems the nubby-shrivelled dick is much more common on a guy than society or porn leads us to believe. Even some of the guys who were pretty fit had tiny dicks. I would say that mine was about like what most of the non-tiny guys had. (In the heat of the sauna and steam room, it had nice hang with no shrivel.) And I really felt, i dont know, manly about the whole expirience. Like I was a regular guy, and not particularly small like I thought in hs or college. I think, out of the nights I was down there and the number of guys I saw (probably about twelve), only 2 were obviously bigger. And a good 5 were obviously smaller. With the rest pretty much the same.

But what do you guys think of this expirience?

to ellaborate just a little bit. Here is an example of how this open sauna / steam room comparison changed how my thoughts / fantasies abotu size usually work.

One of the guys who was also staying there on business was a few years younger tham me. In his mid-late 20s. We talked a little bit while hanging out in the sauna. Mostly about bein out of town for so long. (Over a week in the same hotel), which was a new expirience for both of us.

He had been married for several years, and was fit and trim. (Not overly so, but in shape.) And was, what I would generally concider, better looking than myself. A nice young guy with a wife at home. But his dick was noticable smaller than mine. Not tiny, but obviously smaller. He had about 1 inch of shaft and then a 1 inch circumcised head. Whereas I had about 2 inch of shaft and a little over an inch of head.

So, sitting there in the sauna, talkin about work and being away from home and bosses and taxes, I was thinkin the whole time about how small his was and how good it felt to be the "bigger man" sitting there. And wondering whether he noticed or thought anything about the difference.

I JOed that night in the hotel room thinkin about it, and about how I could give more dick to his wife than he could. And if my dick looked big to his eyes, since he is used to seein his every day. And if he was a little embarassed about it.

Comparing is the only way a guy has to understand what he packs, and most of us understand that any thought about being to small is unjustified.

I have never thought I was small, but only since I started going to the pool/gym/sauna I understood that 6 inches soft is not a common size.

by (i guess) standards, i am huge soft, and just about at the end of the bell curve when i'm hard. this makes it hard to find people who understand and who actually experience the same thing i do. but for me, i find it VERY hard to go into a sauna or gym where people can see me. i don't like being judged, and i find that when i have found the few times where i can actually accept who i am and go in there with just a towel or nude, i get stares, comments, looks...a lot of stuff i try to avoid.

i'm sure everyone here feels great about what they have and how much they like showing it off, but i find that it's hard for me to get naked in front of other men because of my size. i'm ALWAYS self concious about it. and i feel that i cant let go. i DONT enjoy everyone staring at me, it makes me feel weird, and i don't enjoy getting any feedback, because again, it makes me feel weird. i'd like to just go and enjoy my time without somebody saying or doing something that brings attention to me.

You know, 2big, you're exactly the kind of guy this site was established for.

The place is only partly about big dicks and what to do with them. The more important part is to help us all become more comfortable with our bodies, and our selves.

When you add them up (and subtract the trolling) I think there are many more posts about how all us men have issues about being judged, about our self-esteem, and about male stuff that we should take for granted but which makes us feel weird.

Now, the big question. If someone in the locker room said "gee, you're tall", would you feel equally uncomfortable? Or would you laugh off the compliment with a simple "thank you"?

And what can we, your fellow LPSGers, do to help you feel the same when someone comments about your dick?

I'm serious about that. We're good at building self-esteem around here.

For me, I never really felt TOO small. but just the junior member of the men. LOL.

I guess I never really understood the feeling ashamed or uncomfortable because of either biggness or smallness. I agree with the example of commenting someone is tall. If a unique type of body isnt an obvious negative (overweight, very short, strange looking), most people dont feel bad about mentioning it in a friendly way. And, lets face it, most guys dont see large size, especially large flaccid size, as a negative.

For me, my interest in size, and the change in my impressions after the hotel locker room, is more narrow. It is a feeling of pride or humility based on a pretty wide range of common sizes. Not 1" erect or 10" erect. But the Senior or Junior of a guy 7" or 5". when you are dealing with those types of ranges, it isnt so big or so small that a guy cant perform or feels terrible about it. Just a male pride or ego kinda thing.

It was just really interesting to be in the locker room and be a REGULAR guy, not the smallest not the biggest. And to see folks, no matter their size, not really hiding it or being shy. I guess the young husband that I was talkin to didn't think his dick was TOO small. otherwise he would have tried to hide it. But, still, it was exciting to see another guy of the same general age and perspective who was noticable smaller than me.

I agree with headbang. I'm glad you told people here how you feel, but don't take it personally. Guys love their dicks as a rule, and they like being guys. Anybody who seems to have more of what they like about being male, whether it's muscles, looks, dick, smarts, success, fame--they are going to look at with a mixture of envy and admiration. But don't take it personally. They don't know you as a person. They are just relating to you as a symbol. It does make you feel like an object, but in a way, if you are in a gym with strangers (or in any room full of men), you are always an object in some game or another.

The important thing are the people who really know you as a person--not strangers. But why not just carry a little towel and keep a drape? Or sit with your legs in a way that the gawkers you don't like can't see it? If you have friends in the gym, you can also make a pact to gang up on somebody really offensive. The important thing is finding a way not to let idiots waste too much of your time, or take up your thoughts. They aren't worth the investment.

At my gym the only guys who are willing to show their dicks are hung dudes. I've only seen a couple and they all look close to my size, not as big but not far off. The stats I've seen would indicate that I am much larger than average, but I havent noticed it!

I understand that at least soft he is small, but he drew more attention to this then had he just undressed like the rest of us. He made people more curious then they originally were.

yea, ya know, Its a penis. Its my penis, it doesnt really matter what size it is. Its average, flacid its about 3 inches. But I feel like I have to be proud of what I have. So when im in the locker room or around other men, i just let it hang, usually there are men bigger then me and some about my size. As the original post to this thread observes, there are indeed a lot of men out there who have very short “nubby” penises when they are flaccid. I may catch some flak for saying this, but regarding the “showers vs. growers” issue, my experience is that these guys are also correspondingly small when hard. Conversely, I have found that large soft penises do indeed almost always make large hard ones. It is common, though, for men to have relatively unremarkable flaccid penises but have quite respectable erections.
