If use you a website, they have control over what you put on it.

You aren't paying for the support, physical shape, or the software and disk space it takes to create myspace, nor the hours and man power that goes into constantly updating it. You are receiving it as a free service, with ads in your face. You are willingly allowing the ads in.

If they want to censor what you say on their website, then that's entirely up to them.

The entire point of myspace is for someone to create their own personal website. Some children today believe popcorn can only be made in a bag of paper in the microwave. You can make it with oil in a pot over the stove if you want. People who believe that myspace shouldn't censor what they're saying need to understand that the microwave isn't the only way to go and isn't the correct way to make your own website. There are other sites out there similar to myspace, or if you have the know how, just create your own site without any affiliation. Want to know how you can get the know how? Just Fucking Google It

Honestly, I'm with heather here, they have in the user agreement a clause that states the rights of the use and freedom of speech isn't on there guys! People are borrowing their "myspace" from someone else which means that someone else still owns it and can do what he wants with it.

What a load of hogwash.

First, Murdoch isn't the federal government. If MySpace shuts down criticism of itself on a site it hosts, I imagine it has the right to do so.

Second, you conflate alleged annoying behavior of MySpace management with some sort of Pentagon psych-strategy and the NSA terrorist surveillance program and by doing so, try to equate one action with others. (As if the NSA spying on terrorists implanted in this country were a bad thing.)

Rikter, I remember when Mark posted about the government controls legislation being passed over a year ago, so that much is true. Rate a rod and several other "explicit" sites decided to stop posting nudes because of it, I don't know if they're still like that now.

The article is almost a year old, so I think that whatever was up Murdock's ass must have calmed down. He's really not going to risk losing much money for his principles, such as they are.

Heather's right about the advertising. If your website is hosted with regard to the sponsoring of certain products, those little ads essentially censor your content. If they don't like what you say, they pull out and tip off others. In order for a website to remain afloat on its own principles, it has to be free of outside advertising sponsors. Not knowing the politics of this site or the source of the cash flow, I can't say with any confidence how vulnerable the site is to being shut down so long as it follows all the guidelines to hosting nudity and "obscene" imagery.
