Hope this is the right place to post this.

I know that this isn't a fitness site, but there seem to be lots of members who know how to take care of their bodies so I thought that I might as well ask.

So, I'm overweight and need to drop about 100lbs. (I gained a lot due to ill health and various medications :frown1:

I'm now healthy and able to exercise. I've been going research online and I'm worried about being left with loose skin. Is it inevitable?

I plan on losing the weight slowly and healthily. I already use vitamin E enriched Almond oil on my skin, or coconut oil, and I drink lots of water. If I'm careful and make sure that I don't drop the weight too quickly is there a chance that I'll be ok?

At the end of the day my health is more important than appearance, but it would be nice to go back to my firm and curvy self

My partner adam1984 lost quite a bit of weight when we first got together Nd had a lots of loose skin. He slowly regained some of that back but went on WW about a year ago. As part of that he has slowly lost about 90 lbs and while he still has some loose skin, he does not have as much as he did when he first lost the weight. I think it is partly because he is varying his exercise program more this time allowing him to tone some areas but also I think the slow safe weight loss of 1-3 lbs per week has helped so his body can adjust itself. I'm quite proud of him for it. Good luck to you on your weight loss.

Thank you!

Do you mean weight watchers? (just want to be sure)

I'm planning on losing 1-2lbs a week. I've read that any loose skin will eventually tighten up but I can't find anything credible.

Most of the gruesome pictures I've found are following gastric surgery and extreme weight loss.

Your best bet is to lose it slowly and try and tone up slowly in the process. I know a people who have done it this way. Losing between 50 and 75 lbs. There is some loose skin but not as bad as you'd think. Good luck. Hope you get the results you're looking for.

I lost 154 lbs after Gastric Bypass. The fat pad is still there, I can see my dick after many years. The extra skin beats the 4x a day insulin syringe. No more diabetes, no more high blood pressure. The benefits of the surgery outweigh the physical looks I have now.

The first time I was able to touch me feet too the pillow when I was being hammered by my husband was all worth it. You wont worry when your cock is slapping your cheek when your being pounded. You won't care a bit when you are able to cum on your own face.

It probably depends somewhat on age since skin loses elasticity as you get older. A good indicator of if you'll have loose skin may be if you have lots of stretch marks right now. If you have lots of stretch marks it probably indicates that your skin won't be able to compress as well as if you don't have them.

I'm also guessing exercise and sweating may help. I lost 40 lbs 6 yrs ago from exercise and then sitting in the sauna/steam room almost everyday and had no loose skin. In the past couple years I gained weight and now have lost about 40 lbs again but this time it was mostly from eating less and my skin doesn't feel quite as firm. Then again, I am 6 years older now so my skin may just be less elastic or I may not have replaced as much fat with muscle.

Also, I think a lot of us didn't notice that you are female. You might want to also put this question in the women's issues section since hormones have a lot to do with fat distribution, skin pigment and thickness, and metabolism. Male skin also is more oily and increased hair follicle density firms skin.

It took me 9 months to loose the 90 pounds.
I have worked out throughout the entire
proof of weight loss & while I have some
loss skin I am managing to tighten things
up a bit. I've heard of a procedure where
they can freeze fat off of bodies. There are
also a lot if "micro" procedures " out there.
Good Luck.

Thank you so much for the replies. It makes me feel better!

I'd never actually considered that. I just figured that loose skin is loose skin.

I've heard about the fat freezing thing but would never consider it. It's just not for me. My plan is to lose the weight slow and exercise as much as I can. Rapid weight loss will leave me with horrible skin.

I'm 28btw and have stretch marks; nothing major so they don't bother me. I stay out of the sun so my skin is in quite good condition.

I think I should simply stay clear of google image search and not panic.

If you gain muscle at the same time it will not be much of a issue.

You will need to lose it over 1-1/2 to 2 years (gaining muscle will reduce the time required)

Everyone has stretch marks so if you have skin it can happen anywhere and to any one..

I lost 103lbs on Weight Watchers. Here's the truth. You're going to have loose skin. That's all there is to it. Even with muscle mass under your skin, there's too much for the body to just... reabsorb. I took 3 years to lose my weight mainly because I was focusing on lifestyle permanency, but also because I wanted my skin to bounce back as much as possible. You can see my pics that show that it mostly bounced back because I'm young.

That being said... the skin on my stomach and around my waist looks really flabby. Truth be told I'm actually very lean and the skin is just loose. If I had plastic surgery for it I would drop another pant size easily (from 31/32 waist to a 29/30 waist).

Wherever you see 'fat' on your body you're going to have some amount of excess skin. For me it was my stomach, inner thighs, and arms. Muscle has filled out my arms so they're okay. I work my legs a lot in the gym so they're mostly okay (but could use some p.s. to tighten up a bit more). But my stomach is a complete loss until I go under the knife to fix it.

I work out with a personal trainer 4 days a week. I am 60 years old. I am now losing my winter weight of 15 pounds, at the rate of about 1/2 pound a week. I've done this several times since I first starting working with him 17 years ago. He doesn't want me to lose any faster so that my skin can tighten up with the weight loss.

It's is important to remember that each person's skin elasticity is different. I think I read you are 28, no? If so, youth is on your side. Slow and steady is really the best way to maximize your skin's adjustment/eleasticity to your weight loss.

You say you drink a lot of water. Staying hydrated is also important for your skin's health.

If I may offer a thought for you to remember on this journey--you did not put all the weight on overnight, so don't expect to lose it overnight. If you wish to lose 100 or so pounds, perhaps setting interim goals within your larger goal may help you stay on target.

Best Wishes to you during this journey.

I started gaining weight in 2006. The increases on the scale have been steady since then. I'm not ashamed of my size; in fact my ex wanted me to be bigger. I want to downsize for health and personal reasons. I just feel sexier when I'm smaller.

I'm planning on losing the weight over 18 months. I started losing weight in January and my goal date is July 2014.

I think a lot of this will depend on how your weight was gained and where on your body it was stored - a few examples;

During my wife's second pregnancy, she had twins and put on 60 lbs total to include the kiddos. The majority of the weight was in her abdominal and breast area. 18 months later she's back down to her pre baby weight but has a roll of skin that will hang over her jeans. There is very little fat in the roll, it's basically empty skin and you can feel abs underneath. It's not going away no matter how much she works out. Same with her breasts, they went from freggin huge back to C but still have all of the skin from before.

Monday she's going in for surgery to take care of these two areas. She consulted with several doctors and fitness folks who all agreed that the skin would not go back to previous.

For relation, she's 5'3" 120 lbs and just finished a marathon a few weeks back as her fitness goal. She's fit - just too much stretched skin.

Thanks MrRob for sharing all your info. I was wondering if the excess skin bothers you in any way? Do you find your wife any less attractive because of it?

Was the surgery a joint decision?

I won't know about my body until I get nearer my goal; if I end up with extra skin then so be it! I need to be comfortable in my own skin no matter what
