I underwent an Orchidectomy in August of 2012; after suffering with severe, debilitating pain, in my left testicle, following a work-related assault. I was due to have a prosthesis inserted, in a separate procedure, but due to my experiencing prolonged post-operative pain, in the Orchidectomy wound (in the inguinal region), this surgery has been delayed indefinitely.

To be honest, I am starting to feel very down about this, as I had been assaulted in 2010 and had been unable to engage in any sexual activity (because of the severe pain) for the two years prior to my surgery. Agreeing to undergo an Orchidectomy was a drastic and difficult decision to make, but I so desperately wanted to have my life back.

Unfortunately, I am now experiencing severe, constant, pain in the scar and this is exacerbated whenever I engage in any intercourse. I have recently had a steroid injection, into the wound, but this has only served to make the pain more pronounced. I would be happier if the whole area, around the wound, could be "numbed".

I was circumcised as a young child, due to phimosis; and although I grew up in a predominantly uncut culture (the South Wales valleys), I had never viewed my being circumcised as a negative. Instead, I always became the source of some fascination by various female partners. However, being circumcised is not helping the pain which I currently experience in my Orchidectomy scar, as the scar ends at the base of my penis and with my being tightly circumcised, even an erection serves to exacerbate the pain in my scar.

I feel so upset, frustrated and miserable about this. I hate to lay all of my troubles on anyone, but any advice you guys could give wold be most appreciated. Thank you.

I keep on getting "bounced" between the surgeon, who performed my surgery and a chronic pain specialist. Neither is really doing anything and it is just taking so long. I'm 36 and haven't had sex in almost three and a half years. To be honest, the lack of sex is something which, reluctantly, I can learn to accept: but the pain is just unbearable.

Not to be indelicate or anything, but what the hell happened?! A work-related assault? Sounds awful...I hope you get better, marijuana helps a lot with pain, and doesn't cause the damages opiates do, if you're really in pain, try it, I had a severe back injury a year ago, and the only thing that helped me during the start was cannabis, common analgesics made the pain go away for a while, but then it came back, and I had to take double the dosage, my liver was getting fucked up, so I started doing cannabis and I could just ignore the pain and live as close to normal as a person with awful backpain can. Now Im much better and not using anything.

I work as a security guard and had to deal with a violent female who had physically attacked members of staff: as I attempted to restrain her, she kicked me in my left testicle. Ouch !!!
I am willing to try anything to alleviate this pain, so thank you for your suggestion.

In the U.S., sometimes local doctors collude in deciding that a patient is crazy/malingering/faking... and pass that person around doing nothing to help. The reputation precedes the patient wherever he goes seeking medical care. The solution can be to go to a different and preferably much larger city, perhaps a university clinic, for a completely independent opinion. Good luck.

It really does seem that way here; I saw three different surgeons, over a period of eighteen months, before the last one decided to operate. It then took nine months, after the surgery, for me to even be referred to a chronic pain specialist. The steroid injection, which this specialist, administered four weeks ago, has had no positive effect whatsoever and now it will be another six months before I am able to see him again. I have private health insurance now and hopefully, I will be able to get treated sooner. This whole thing has been a nightmare.

The woman who kicked me was never caught and remains "at large". I am not a vengeful person, but she has ruined my life and has faced no consequences for her actions.

I have chronic pain from a different cause; I had sarcoidosis which caused nerve damage in my spinal column, and the resulting muscle tension in my right leg causes chronic and never-ending pain. I could take pain-killers, but they leave me tired and feeling spaced-out while only taking the edge off my pain.

I am writing this for those who recommend a different or second opinion to 'solve' the problem. With medical issues there isn't always an easy solution.

I sympathise with you cutwelshboy and I do hope you can find a way out of your malaise. Although a side-effect of my nerve damage is erectile dysfunction, I have a normal sex life through using injection therapy. The bonus to this is that the endorphins after sex are an effective pain-killer for an hour or two. Maybe there is a medical solution to your problem and I do hope so, because nerve damage is impossible to 'cure' but a surgical scar ought to be fixable. But the other side of the coin is that it is surprising how many of us have to deal with chronic pain, and many who know us face-to-face never realise it.

At the risk of being mawkish (and I really do apologise if this offends anyone), but here is a photo of the damage this "lady" caused to me:

I had my right testicle removed because of an impact injury that ruptured it and caused it swell to 5 times normal size. The pain was immense and there was no hope for it to heal.It was removed through an incision just above the pubic hair line on my belly, there was numbness and a dull ache along the right side of my belly and scrotum for a little over a year.I also had erectile disfunction when the pain was bad, years later all is good.
What shocks me about your case is that the surgeon chose to remove yours through the scrotum. In the U.S. it is known that scrotal skin does not heal well or rapidly. As well as the fact that cutting into the scrotum exposes you to a very large risk for infection that can be fatal.
A malpractice suit seems in order.

I too sympathise with you cbrmale; chronic pain can completely monopolise your life and as you rightfully said, nerve pain is almost impossible to treat. I have been prescribed neuropathic painkillers; but these only serve to make me feel naucious and are ineffective when dealing with the pain. Hopefully, if the source of my pain is the scar itself, it may be treated.

You are absolutely right in what you said about others not realising the pain you are experiencing; I think that we all try to remain stoic and to "put on a brave face" when living with chronic pain.

If you have not been helped yet, I suggest treating this like a war injury. Perhaps, you can find a military surgeon who has seen testicle damage.
