Because the company currently owns Sean Cody is not the one it used to be, and somehow the new company found out they actually don't own copyrights of those old scenes. This is what I heard.
So those old scenes all belong to the original owner? Sean Cody himself?

Thanks, copyright ownership of older SC material seems like a much more logical and believable reason than what I previously heard.

Other reasons I heard (which I didn't believe) was that it was due to possible underage models and/or incomplete documentation about the models. TBH, I never believed that. But because it roughly coincided with the time when the media was talking about 'revenge' porn and a lot of 'undocumented' or homemade porn was being pulled from PornHub, some people thought that reason also applied to SC.

Sean Cody was sold to Mindgeek in 2015. The massive video purge didn't happen then, however.

When the original Sean sold the company to Mindgeek, it was clearly a condition of the sale that any videos featuring him either have him edited out, or be removed completely if he appeared in too much of the video to edit him out and leave a coherent video.

This resulted in the deletion of maybe 20 videos in 2015, soon after the sale, and the substitution of shorter versions of about another 20 videos.

The mass deletion we're all talking about consisted of about 2000 videos, almost every video pre-2015.

This happened a week after the big Mindgeek/Visa/Mastercard war in December 2020.

It's petty clear that Mindgeek purged all videos they had not directly done the contracts for, out of fear the contracts might not hold up today.

They've clearly been slowly reviewing the contracts and restoring some videos that have good contracts. They've added back a few hundred videos, in small batches, over the last 15 months.

The whole Sean Cody company was sold to Mindgeek, nobody else owns those old videos, the problem is almost certainly just that they want to be 1000% sure they have legit paperwork for each scene, so they don't get cut off by Visa and Mastercard.

I'll be happy to continue the membership if they restore most of the old videos, but hell, it took them 15 months to slowly uploading again... well at least a good sign

They also made a HUGE change in the last 2-3 months, however.

For twenty years, every paying member could download every video.

Suddenly, members can only stream videos.

To download, you now must pay an extra $15 a month, ON TOP of your normal membership.

That place is going downhill fast.

Tell me about it, when I first joined the membership I was like wtf, I had to pay extra to download the vids, but oh well the guys were hot so I just went for it. TBH, If they really restore most vids, just join once and download your fav content then that's that... I just want the old vids back
