I had my first sperm test - wife and I are trying to get pregnant. While my sperm count is pretty normal, my morphology is at 8%. My doc said that it should be higher than 14% and that I should take the test again in a month.

Have you taken the test? Have any of you got pregnant with a morphology the same as mine? Have you seen a lot of variation in your morphology month to month?

I only got an email from my primary care doc about this, so I'm a little eager to see what other people think...

I've had mine checked before, and although I don't remember the specifics per se I do remember the mobility could have been better. My ex and I had not been able to get pregnant so we both got checked. I do remember them saying it was somewhat below average, the mobility. Mostly the problem was my ex, as she didn't have a normal cycle. After trying several times she got pregnant with the help of her taking medication. I never did take anything, but was told to wear loose fitting clothes ect. Good luck!

A repeated test in one month time is useless... spermatogenesis is a three-month cycle...

5-15% is considered as having a "fair chance of conception"... over 15% is a "normal" value...

What you need to understand is, that while it is normal for an adult male to produce a significant amount of abnormal sperm cells (sometimes over 40%), there are factors that contribute to a low percentage of "normal" sperm cells (determined by shape, size and size ratios) - such as scrotum temperature...

In this case it is highly recommended to wear looser underwear (or no underwear, especially at night, while asleep), wear looser jeans/trousers, avoid long periods sitting down, take long walks etc...

P.S. how long was your abstinence period before submitting your semen for sperm count?

My ex husband never had a sperm test done..now reading your post I so wish he had, just to make sure.. because of the sensitivity of the subject.. I kind of blamed my own eggs as low quality ones..I've gotten pregnant by him just he sneezing over me LOL yes that easy.. but all ended up in miscarriages (5) and two of them have no embryo (blighted ovum) but I felt all pregnancy symptoms and etc. He was a heavy drinker and a heavy pot smoker though..unhealthy life style might influence sperm quality too.

Great you are in the top the game, being tested, having your doctor taking care of the results and come up with a plan. I wish you and your wife the very best!

Thanks Gisella!

Yeah, we didn't know whose fault -- and it's not necessarily the "blame" game, but it's more just knowing so that you can take the right steps to solve the solution (if there is one).

So... I'll go in a few months to do another check up.
