Unfortunately for him, the movie bombed big time at the box office. :(
And Billy is blaming it on homophobia.

Even tho he's the one who promoted a GAY romcom to a STRAIGHT audience.

Does he know how demographics work?

I just watched it. It was OK.......very funny in some parts, very over the top in others. I love Luke so he was the main reason I wanted to see it. I had heard "explicit" used to describe the sex scenes........but I found them to be pretty tame. The "fourgy" was funny, and the first one with Luke and Billy was kinda weird. I can see why this may not appeal to the straight folks though. It is *very* gay. But not sure I agree with Billy's "homophobia" statement. There's a difference between not wanting to see something because it just doesn't interest you, versus hatred or phobia.

Yes, he promoted it to the wrong audience.

Definitely agree that not wanting to see this wouldn't have to do with homophobia

if I wasn't gay (and if Luke wasn't in it), I probably wouldn't have bothered to see it at all even with Judd Apatow's name there but that's also because I usually don't watch RomComs at all.

from what I hear, Rom Coms in general aren't as popular as they used ot be in the first place so, without a big star to attract an audience and with it already being more niche due to being gay, it is not shocking it didn't get the best reception

though that's not say I didn't find it funny, which I did

September in general is typically not a good month for box office returns either. I think maybe a June release would have benefited the film a lot. Being pride month and all, they could have really played up that angle.

But yeah a gay romcom would never quite the mass appeal I think Eichner was hoping for. For various reasons. I think that's why these types of series/movies find a lot more success on Streaming.

I think the homophobia he's talking about is the refusal to see gay people as anything but sexual animals. And this is what's happening right now, it's all about the sex scenes as if he made a porn movie. There's got to be more to it, more to the characters than the gay sex and yet, that's all we are talking about. And frankly, most of the promotion I have seen so far has been about that: how to get Luke's body and the sex scenes. Instagram and this forum are free for that, so anything else to offer?

Groff or Hall, yes. They have the sensibility.

Chris Salvatore?! Tortorella?! Are you having a fucking laugh? The part is of a brainy gay guy who doesn't care for sex, not an unemployed cum-guzzling hoe with an hailing OF! ^^'

Honey, you're talking a romcom seriously. The role doesn't even have to be a brainy guy. I just listed conventionally attractive queer men

Michael C. Hall is straight from what I can tell. He played a queer role on Six Feet Under, but he's a straight dude.

It's alright, love. I didn't realise we were on different topics. I'm talking about Bros and you're listing men. My bad!
