Billy would never agree to that. His entire premise was all caps ALL OUT GAY ACTORS in a rom com. So there's that.
Tbh I like that approach. At least for this movie. It’s actually refreshing to see a mostly gay cast playing gay characters for once.

Hopefully his career won't be too tarnished or damaged by this first big movie outing of his bombing so terribly... I'd hate for him to have to go back to doing all those inane Hallmark Christmas B-movies.
I mean the actual reviews of the movie are mostly positive. He'll be fine.

1. its a romcom, and the genre hasn't been very populat in theater for years
2. it came out in october, that's a time where contenders for Award are released and horror movies too, not the right time to release a romcom in theaters.
3. there's no "big name" attached, Billy Eichner and Luke Macfarlane aren't box office draw.
4. this is a netflix movie...

And he has stayed out of this whole "post opening weekend" fiasco. He has showed restraint and class, and that will also help him going forward.

September in general is typically not a good month for box office returns either. I think maybe a June release would have benefited the film a lot. Being pride month and all, they could have really played up that angle.

But yeah a gay romcom would never quite the mass appeal I think Eichner was hoping for. For various reasons. I think that's why these types of series/movies find a lot more success on Streaming.
100%. Bros could’ve had a summer release had Billy not been insistent on making TIFF happen. It’s a major studio film not an indie, so it didn’t need TIFF nearly as much as it needed a different release date. Sad to say but he really sabotaged his own film in a lot of ways.

Luke has been really quiet since Billy's social media outburst after the disappointing opening weekend numbers. Seems that he has been more or less a sidebar to Billy all along - most interviews I saw had Billy doing all the talking and Luke sitting there looking nice and speaking when he was asked a question. I think it's his style to be more low key (another reason to like him), and Billy can be pretty.......overpowering. Just wondering what Luke thinks about all this turmoil.......
Luke probably doesn’t agree with where Billy’s placed blame and it’s not like he’s winning his argument. To blame straights and homophobes is pointless. The film wasn’t for them, it was for the gays. At least that was Billy’s initial target audience until he realized it was mostly straight people at the early screenings. Billy doesn’t even realize that to complain about what he did drove home the fact that gays didn’t show up in droves for it either. That’s almost more embarrassing than begging straight people to see your film to prove they’re not homophobic. So yeah, between Billy making a fool of himself and Billy not putting Luke’s name on any of the posters I would be keeping quiet if I were Luke too lol

Luke’s a good actor. Billy couldn’t even mask how bothered he was by Luke’s defense of masculinity here.

Yep - Luke has to pick his battles and this isn't one of them. He is probably more willing to lick his wounds and move on than Billy is. I do hope this gets a boost from streaming. In my humble opinion, it's not a bad movie, and folks just need to know what to expect going in (and with all the publicity since last weekend, I would think that they will know).

It felt very cut and paste to me and the sex scenes were overhyped for what they ended up being (more awkward and weird than fun and hot... even Elite on Netflix had a more graphic + tasteful gay sex scene!), but I enjoyed it so I hope it finds its footing on streaming too. A director's and/or unrated cut could only help ;)

Billy has behaved like a nasty little shit this whole time. His promotion campaign was just self promotional. Just me me me me me. And now he's having fits on twitter attacking people for his movie collapsing. What did he expect - he pre-accused audiences saying conservatives should not turn up for his film and that people who don't watch it are bad people.

And I found him insulting in interviews towards Luke. I understand this is Billy's first big movie so he's excited. But share the lime light with Luke too. Luke's never been a lead in a studio movie before. He barely let Luke talk. In every interview he spoke 3 times as much as Luke, sometimes answered questions addressed at Luke, added to Luke's answers. It felt really condescending to me. I wish they had given them separate interviews.

Billy doesn't have the name recognition he thinks that he does. Hopefully the end result not being what he wanted was a wake-up call (though I doubt his ego will stand for him being at fault). Flop or not, Billy should have let Luke have his well deserved moment in the sun without his dark cloud of a shadow.

I wonder if the writer regrets reaching out to Billy to co-write Bros.
Was Dan Levy busy? lol

I’d take Billys ass over Dans tbh.
and u notice how Luke gets like one short scene but Billy devotes an entire scene to his ass. Hmm…

Great question. Dan Levy has won awards for his comedy writing. I have no doubt he could have written a better movie than Billy.

And Dan would have the grace to know he's not a leading man selling tickets - so he would happily let someone else be the lead. But Billy had to have himself be the lead.

that very well may have been Luke's decision
Good point. I am wondering, given Luke's history as a "wholesome guy" with his Hallmark work, how much input he had into the more sexual scenes? I thought it was pretty tame - maybe he had some input into that? So many scenes on Netflix and HBO Max now that make the Bros scenes look like a Disney movie, but maybe Luke wanted it that way?
