Los Angeles porn actor tests positive for HIV - Yahoo! News

LOS ANGELES – California's multibillion-dollar adult entertainment industry has been left reeling after another positive HIV test for a pornography actor.

The revelation Tuesday led to two of the industry's biggest companies shutting down production and a scramble to find partners who may have been exposed by the actor, whose identity and gender have not been released.

The actor was a patient of the Adult Industry Medical Healthcare Foundation, a San Fernando Valley clinic that caters to pornographic actors.

Clinic spokeswoman Jennifer Miller told the Los Angeles Times that efforts are under way to notify individuals who may have had sexual contact with the actor. Miller did not return calls or e-mail from The Associated Press on Tuesday.

Wicked Pictures and Vivid Entertainment told the Times that they stopped production as a precaution when the positive test was revealed.

Los Angeles County public health officials and state occupational health officials have said the widespread lack of condom use on porn sets puts performers at risk for contracting HIV and other diseases. Adult film producers say viewers find them to be a turnoff.

Last year, a woman tested positive for HIV immediately after making an adult film, and in 2004, an HIV outbreak affecting several actors spread panic in the industry and briefly shut down productions at several California studios.

Porn actors are required by law to test negative for HIV and other sexually transmitted diseases within 30 days of going to work on a film.

State workplace safety officials at Cal/OSHA are considering strengthening rules designed to prevent transmission of disease through bodily fluids to specify the use of condoms in the adult entertainment industry.

Currently, the same laws that call on health care professionals to wear gloves and other protective barriers when dealing with patients applies to the adult film business, but the laws don't make specific provisions for porn.

AIDS Healthcare Foundation President Michael Weinstein said his organization has been advocating for a tightening of the rules, and the adult entertainment industry and AIM clinic would "do everything in its power to prevent us from knowing who was impacted."

"AVN.com has learned from sources that Patient Zero is a male performer who performed in both straight and gay adult videos. Additionally, we received word that an undetermined number of first and second generation adult performers who may have been exposed have been quarantined at this time. "

I don't see this as such a shock, considering all the info available to people about practicing safe sex or preventing pregnancy, that's ignored everyday by people all around the world. Not to mention eating junk food is bad for our health, speeding is dangerous, alcohol is bad for you, etc. It's business as usual. Also, I have to admit that I don't like seeing condoms in porn, so count me as one of the pro-ignorance porn viewers I guess.

Precisely.

I wouldn't say that. Case in point, if you and your sexual partner have been truly faithful to one another for years, have been proactive with getting HIV tests and are still negative, then it's understandable why couples in these scenarios would want to engage in sexual activity without condoms. IMO, watching people not wearing condoms in porn isn't the problem. Although I do get a little turned off when I see footage from those excessive, gang banging bareback videos where one guy "takes loads" from 50 people in one session.

The homophobia in the straight porn world is insane.

Ron Jeremy just wanted to blame it on a male actor who makes both gay and straight porn. According to him, a 100% hetero dude would never transmit HIV to loads of women in "straight" porn.

(To Ron Jeremy: Many now "straight-only" actors have made gay porn at some point. Accept reality, you homophobe).

Here's what happens. You get tested you are clean you go to work, but after work you meet someone who is not in the biz, who isn't tested and you fuck them with NO CONDOMS. But tomorrow or few days later you come back to work to fuck. That's reality.

Ron Jeremy is just happy to have a soap box to talk on.

The fact of the matter this next generation of people coming up are so pansexual they can easily see him as a joke

And I believe that therein lies a large part of the problem. The incubation (first) period for HIV lasts about 2 to 4 weeks, the second stage lasts approximately 30 days, the third stage can last anywhere from a couple of weeks to 20 years, and the last and final stage can take a lifetime. So by law even though there is extensive testing done in the porn industry for all STI's, it's only feasibly effective if the actors maintain 100% celibacy outside of those tested or if the testing is done more frequently than every 30 days.

It's sad one way or the other, though. I'm sure actors in the porn industry know what kind of business they're in, but who the hell deliberately signs up for HIV? I believe they may put false hope into all the extensive testing they must do, and it takes an incidence like this every 5 years or so to "wake everyone up". Very unfortunate.

where is the bulk of HIV getting propogated from these days... sexuality wise? It was fun/cool to point out straight women were the fastest growing demogrpahic, when their cases when from a mere 200 to 400.... vs homosexual rates were going from 30,000 to 38,000. The politicization of HIV and fear of calling a spade a spade in this arena is a shame.

we know what causes HIV/AIDS.... at least I do.

I have no idea who the person is, but there have been some reports that the number of HIV-positive performers in gay porn is very high. So high that sometimes positive actors are intentionally matched up with each other for scenes. Don't know how reliable that is though.

If Ron Jeremy said that he's pretty ignorant though. There have been several male performers that have given HIV to female performers.
