Other times I've used the men's room because I really had to go and the line in the women's room was apallingly long. I really give less than a shit if I put a few men out by going into one of their unused stalls so I don't wet myself.

LOL - I have done this a few times myself during intermission! The men never mind. Half the time they don't even notice, as they are facing the wall, and the stalls are usually empty.

Nothing I can add to the comments above, except:

Men usually prefer to go to the restroom by themselves. Even if he knows there will be other guys in there, he doesn't want anyone else from his group to go. Women usually prefer to take a small herd in with them. What's the deal with that?

I'd prefer to use male bathrooms, but it's sort of difficult when I dress and look female. Based on experience, less trouble comes out of me using female facilities than male ones. It's really that simple.

When you can see that there are going to be women in adjacent stalls you should pee standing up sometimes just to freak them out.

To answer you question though I think women are probably far more social in the can the men. I would guess that to be the biggest gap.

They have changing tables in the men's room where you are? Must be nice. My husband usually has to go out to the car to change the baby.

I'm a big fan of so-called family bathrooms. They are usually small (sometimes with just a locking door, no stalls), have kid-friendly things (low sinks, changing tables), will fit a stroller, and I can go in with my husband and kid.

However, I really don't think a 2-3 year old cares about your schlong, at least not any more than she cares about the urinal itself, and much, much less than she cares about, say, Elmo.

It's just embarrasing when your kid says aloud; "Mommy, how come that strangers thingy is so much bigger than Daddys?" Ouch.

Male here, and I have a couple thoughts...
First of all, I think women use the restroom to remove bodily waste...(or shit and piss for you hyper-masculine types). I also think that the mirror provides allure to those who are concerned with their immediate appearance. As well, I think women use the rest room to rest, recollect themselves, even gather advice from their peers.

Now for the men, I have a few thoughts buffered with a few questions. First of all, men in america, both gay and straight, are often afraid of the stigma that comes with being identified as gay. This certainly cuts down on the bathroom chatter. Although urination is a natural thing, I think most woudl agree it is still mostly a private affair, and to be too socialble and familiar in a public restroom is like bringing strangers into yoru personal life if only for a moment. Rest rooms are off to the side and hidden away for a reason. Now, with that being said, I one time received a joke email about urinal etiquette. I found it pretty funny. Basically It broke down how you should approach and use a set of 6 urinals depending upon their current usage.

In my next post I will try to reproduce this...or give a link.

Beat me to it!

Yeah, but you got the flash one up while before I edited it into my post.

I still think the options of leaving are funny. If I have to piss, and the only available one is next to someone, I'm going there, I'm not going to wait until there are 2 free urinals.

I have to say that these are spot on, mostly. I do have a few issues with "The Urinal Game" though. Unless desperate there are a few circumstances that would make you just leave and come back later.

(a) Never stand next to another man. Public toilets should make every other urinal non-functional. It would save money and there would be little impact.

(b) Stand as far away from the "other guy" as possible.

(c) Don't even dare look at another man in the toilets unless you have strong masochistic tendancies.

It never really occured to me until a few days ago, but men and women don't seem to have a clue what really goes on in the opposite gender's bathroom.

I heard they sacrifice pigs and sheep to the old gods in there! 0_o

Really? I just can't imagine waiting just because the open urinal is next to someone. I'm not there to molest anyone, just to relieve myself. And it really shouldn't matter to the guy that was there first unless he wanted someone to stand next to him.

In America a man can be arrested for being in a woman's restroom and heaven help you if there is a female child present.

On a business trip last year I stopped at an Arizona gas station, there appeared to be only one restroom, I used a stall and when I left there was a female attendant cleaning the sink, she freaked out and had the other female attendant call the police. Long story short, I patiently waited for the police to arrive and while they took the womans statement, I showed the officer the sign that said "Restroom", not Restrooms, the mens sign on the left side of the door and the womens sign on the right side of the door and that the mens room had a different opening mechanism, an emergency exit looking bar on a door that appeared to be a door to the outside. While the policeman was there a group of men came in, half of them used the mens room the other half used the womens room after opening the door and asking if anyone was in there. The police officer warned them all of them that they could be arrested for trespassing and if a woman or worse a girl had walked in they could have been arrested for flashing or worse. He let me go without even taking my name.

The gas station could have prevented this situation by putting the appropriate restroom sign on the appropriate door.

There was a recent controversy in Florida where a bar had signs that essentially said: Womens Restroom (not!) for men and Mens Restroom (not!) for women.
