My wife is concerned by her first mammogram, she is quite sensitive she thinks it will hurt, she is younger than the advised age but doctor orders.
I read she should choose the appointment according to her period to minimize discomfort.
How were your experiences with this and other breast exams?
Squeeze breast and X-ray them seams to me as an old method, haven’t invited something better to perform this tests?

Nope. Nothing better at this point. Mammograms aren’t infallible, but they’re the best option so far. Innovations in women’s health isn’t exactly a priority.

Anyway, I get an annual mammogram. It’s uncomfortable and kind of awkward, but not as bad as I thought they were going to be. I have heard that smaller breasted women experience more discomfort, but the pain experienced during the exam pales in comparison to the pain of breast cancer.

Definitely avoid doing it when breasts are hormonally tender. Be prepared to assume some awkward positioning. Several different pictures are taken - top down, from the side, and the one that is most uncomfortable, when they cram all the tissue from under your armpit into the machine.

I don’t consider mammograms to be painful at all. Uncomfortable, yes, but the only time I’ve experienced pain is when they neeed an additional look at a spot closer to my armpit. When they cranked the plates down for a good look, it pulled on some tender skin... it was a skin thing, not boob pain. I’m on the smaller side... a B cup, and everyone who I’ve heard really complain about pain have even smaller and described the skin pain thing.

Be prepared for a callback... about half of women need to have another set done NOT because stuff is found, but because they don’t have any other images to compare to. Is this how your Brest tissue is, or is it a concern?

I’d also recommend tomography, aka 3D mammography. It can sometimes be more expensive, but it’s only been a $45 charge for me, and due to the better imaging, I’ve never had to come back to get squashed. I did have an ultrasound follow up for a cyst once, but the tomography prevented the need for 2nd mammogram THEN ultrasound. The slight drawback is that there is an additional radiation dosage due to doing 2 images at a time, but that’s the equivalent of the radiation you’d get taking a flight between NYC & LA, or just existing on earth for like 2 months. NBD for most people but could be a concern if you have lots of cumulative exposure.

I hope she has a good experience. I’m glad she’s listening to her doctor.

I was thinking on the tomography if you can virtually see anything with it why order a mammography, it’s a cost issue.
Thanks for the heads up on the callback.
With all this pandemonium it’s impossible to schedule an appointment, I hope everything goes ok on the test and the results she has her temper and if she gets uneasy there is no way they get near her.
The radiation thing it’s not a concern for me, perhaps to a future baby who will need to feed from the breast but I think it will wear of by then.

I’m so glad someone else getting radiated has no concern for you unless you reproduce with her.
Well I think there is enough test to say it’s safe on a grownup human, you say they will glow at night?
Don’t make me false expectations I got more air miles and x-rays tomographies than her and still stumble with stuff at night.

I've only felt pain a couple of times, and that was the technician's fault. It is uncomfortable and awkward though. I never quite know what to do or where to look.

My husband and I compare our respective awkward exams. I have the booby smash and he has the finger poke the butt deal.

Tomography IS a type of mammogram... they take 2 sets of digital images at the same time and marry them together to make it 3D. Remember the View Master toy or stereograph pictures? 2 pictures taken from a slightly different perspective viewed at the same time looks 3D.

And as far as the baby feeding from a radiated boob??? Yeah, that's not a thing. Do you know how much food is irradiated??? Because it kills e. Coli and salmonella in meat/eggs/milk, kills bacteria and extends shelf life of fruits, veggies and spices, etc etc etc. Its very low levels, less than what we get from the sun, living in a brock home, just existing.

I live in the UK, over here (certainly in the countryside where I am) we get a mobile truck come around to our local hospital. I get an appointment sent in the post which isn't really particularly negotiable as the truck is only in town for a few days, like others have said it's not painful but can be uncomfortable.
I have particularly large natural breasts and apparently fairly dense breast tissue, this combination means they usually take several shots, 1, because they have to be happy they have shot the entire breast and 2, because my tissue is dense they like to have multiple shots as apparently denser tissue is more difficult to read on the pictures than fattier breast tissue.
Tell your lady not to worry about a thing, just be ontime for her appointment and it'll be over quickly, I've always found that everyone is friendly and helpful, free tea and biscuits and of course it's a very important part of women's health to be screened. X

I hope it goes well for your wife. Tell her it's not that bad.

I mean, it's not like they're going to stick a finger up her bum.

Mission accomplished. She went and now the doctor has the results, nothing remarkable on the report so I think it’s all in order.
She is quite sensitive so experienced pain but it was fast and awkward. giving context she described once an eco as the technician stabbing her, I was there, but that’s her body and feeling next time we request a tomography if possible.
She has uniformly dense tissue too so double squished her, she is also on the larger side natural with a perfect high so she struggled stepping on the tips of her feats to reach the machine trying not to loose anything on the boobytrap.
Thank you all for the advices, I think they helped us.

Thanks.
I’m on the poking age it’s a matter of time until a doctor ask my age and order me one.
She complained that my fertility test were fun just jack on the cup, and eco. Hers were uncomfortable. Luckily there wasn’t any problem there for us and the first time was the charm.
