Elderly Man Pulls Trigger In Double Murder, Suicide
Man Shoots Wife, Grandson, Then Self
If only he had known about the free hospice care that is available to everyone in the country! Local news stated that George Doby was going blind and he was the sole caregiver for his 82 year old wife who had Parkinson's and his autistic grandson. Apparently he felt if he couldn't care for them, no one else would do so. :frown1:
IMO, it wasn't just the allegedly loving family which failed George & Edna Doby, society at large failed them too. :angryfire2: Someone should have been able to reach out and say "let me help" or "here's a phone number to call, they can help you care for Edna and take you to doctor appts."

ATLANTA -- George Doby had been married to his wife 57 years on the day authorities say he shot and killed her and their 12-year-old grandson before killing himself. Two of the couple's children and four of their grandchildren had come to George and Edna Doby's house south of Atlanta on Sunday afternoon to celebrate their anniversary, according to a police report released Monday. "This was an all-American family," said East Point police Capt. Russell Popham. "The family's still struggling to understand why he did it and obviously we'll never know now."
This is so sad and so preventable.Bowman told The Atlanta Journal-Constitution that George Doby, 87, had failing eyesight. His wife, Moiselle "Edna" Doby, 82, had been diagnosed with Parkinson's Disease. Edna Doby and her grandson -- who was autistic -- were shot multiple times. George Doby had a single, self-inflicted wound.
