Magner's Pear Cider sounds goood.
A drink made with fermented pears used to be called a 'perry' when I was a kid!!
Amazing what a bit of marketing does.....I'll have a 'Babycham'...
I learned this on Giada De Laurentiis's Everyday Italian show on the FOOD Network that 1/2 sparkling apple cider and 1/2 lager is called a shandy. I don't drink beer. But I think that I would drink it more as a shandy than drinking beer as it is. (I never liked the taste of beer as it is.)
What is he saying? That's English?
A shandy in England is half of lemonade: half of beer (either bitter, mild or lager.)![]()
I'll have a 'Babycham'...
The drink is a perry. But perry and particularly babycham - the best known perry - are looked upon as the drink of old ladies, which might not be a big market to target.
Cider by contrast is something a bloke can drink. I suppose by calling this perry a pear cider they are trying to get away from the old lady image and position it as a man's drink. The bulge in the opening seconds is surely no accident - they are trying to suggest that virile men drink their product.
Have you ever tasted babycham? Hard to believe anyone ever wants to drink perry. Yuk!
