Yes it is. I say it because the phrase "gay boy awakening" that you just made up. A person can only identify as a gay male if they identify as a male. Claiming ownership to a gay or straight sexual orientation is an indirect way of claiming ownership to a male or female sex identity, don't you think?

Besides, possessing a sexual attraction towards men and identifying as a homosexual are two different things. The former describes your sexual preference alone while the latter layers your sex identity on top of it.

Is a sex identity necessary for a person to feel sexual attraction toward other humans? You stimulated in me a line of thought I cannot finish. I don't know how to answer that question.
