Not to romanticize yesteryear, but I am continually struck -- by posts on this site and in my general reading -- at the pervasive "longing" so many men have for another male connection -- and I mean that across the emotional spectrum, and especially in friendship. I get the feeling that we men simply don't connect as did those past generations.

I do know (from reading a lot) that sexual expression between men has been a part of the male bonding experience since time began. Within cultures it didn't have such a burden as it does now and was considered simply a matter of experience within the course of one's life and was accepted by the culture as a whole. I guess America's Puritanical roots upended this experience, leaving modern men with no avenue for male bonding.
