I'm recalling the ABC News "20/20" interview with Barbara Walters and Martha....
Martha said she believed in the judicial process.....
"justice will prevail" I think she said.
'Sure looks like it did, too.
While I won't actually reveal "my take" on all this, I will acknowledge wondering about Martha and those already cited seven years as a stock broker. She would have HAD to know A LOT about the stock market. Love her or hate her---Martha IS a brilliant woman. We needn't dwell on "how" she got to her success. That could be yet another story, who knows? (I saw the TV movie and will just withhold judgment)
Tender noted she felt Martha was "picked on" (by virtue of just being a woman.) Could be. And, she probably was to some extent. I have to agree to that. But, the opportunity to convey a strong message (by the government) to the overall general public was just too great this particular time around. This "white collar crime" REALLY hit close to home. Afterall, everyone knew Martha!
What we kept on hearing about from the New York City courtroom was riveting stuff. Apparently, a great illegal wrong had been done....BIG time, too! And "our beloved Martha" was involved in it.
--Oh Martha! How could you?
Woman or not...if Martha did do wrong, then there had to be punishment. Taking any other direction (or stance) on this would only add another dastardly "wrong" to the equation. So, there you go. --Take it or leave it. Weighing everything revealed....the verdict made perfect sense. It was the one convicted that was so disconcerting for so many. --An icon had fallen.
Yep. Martha's learned her lesson, here, I think.
And so has ALL of America.
We won't be forgetting "Martha's Mess" anytime soon.
