The Republicans have to field someone who isn't entirely batshit crazy first.

But you can't win the Repubican 'base' unless you are batshit crazy. Have you seen the loons lining up in Iowa?

What in fuck are you talking about. I'm a socialist, and I still think you were high or having a fit of stupid when you typed that.

Slow down there buddy, I know sometimes our brains have hiccups. Follow the quotes, go slowly, and come back to me if you have any questions.

Rick Perry is convinced that America wants another halfwit Texan for President. As for Ron Paul reminds me of Ralph Nader everytime you look up he is running for President.

I'd like to see Ron Paul and someone like Dennis Kucinich or Bernie Sanders debate each other. Say what you want about any of those people, they're fairly honest sounding people.

Really, racist? I have never heard anything out of his mouth even a little racist and since everyone is trying to discredit him and they have not even brought this up, I do not see where that statement comes from.

And just because it seems racist in your little PC world does not make it so...

What Ron is saying is "Do we need the government to tell us NOT to be racist?"

Given that we had to pass laws and amendments to make it illegal to discriminate against others on the basis of skin color, sex, religion, etc... I would say that the answer to that question is yes. Paul assumes that everyone would not do these things out of principle since everyone is supposed to know that being "racist" is morally wrong. Alas, even with that knowledge and current laws in place it's obvious that many people simply don't care and do it anyhow.

Which is why women continue to get paid less than men for the same jobs. Which is also why the gap between average yearly incomes for caucasians versus black & hispanic families are at all time highs and are continuing to grow. Which is also why so many people have such animosity towards Muslims in this country.

It would be nice to know that the majority of people conducted themselves with the best of intentions and everyone else's well being in mind... but that simply doesn't happen.

The massive stock sell off was in fact to me minor and I had expected much worse. Considering the effects that a default would have had it was a few people trying to panic and save their own rear ends at the last moment. This was not a crash of anything it was a minor "quiver" in comparison.

As fara as candidates as has been said I am expecting another Republican at the very last minute that will steal the spotlight. There are several possibilities and among them could be yet another Bush.

The GOP has got to realize that they have a bunch of unelectable crazies right now.

In contrary to an opinion already stated I could see Mit Romney going all the way, but he is the only one they have thrown up there that can. At the same time underneath the conservative mormon boredom I still see a man who by background would probably satisfy neither his party nor the American people. He has had a few accomplishments one being the excellent job done at the Salt Lake City Winter Olympics. The problem is the family track record. As son of George Romney his family background is not exactly stellar when it comes to solving financial issues. If I had to choose between Romney and Obama it would be Obama unfortunately. He is a Wuss and a coward loving to debate everything to death, but he at least has a comprehension that more money is going to have to come from somewhere to fix this. Cutting spending is not enough without additional revenue.

The only common sense alternative is to remove the troops from the middle east at this time and to do it immediately. This is not a view against the issues of the middle east, it is a view for keeping this country financially sound. If we are forced to deal with the Middle East again forget the National Guard, use the regular military already receiving salaries under all circumstances to do the job. Then the next thing is to create jobs by rebuilding the infrastructure of this country that has been neglected because of budget cuts over the last thirty or more years. Roads, highways, communications, National Parks, cleanup of environmental problems created by industry are all jobs that would be of incredible benefit to the American People.

The stock sell off is nothing compared to what is going to happen if the bickering and lack of action continues. The GOP can not be dumb enough to continue the attitude and think that it is not going to eventually come back and bite them in the butt.

The budget and debt ceiling agreement signed is a total disaster full of crap, but, at least we are not in default and it is hopeful that the problems can be fixed within this agreement.

And just because it seems racist in your little PC world does not make it so...

1996 Dallas Morning News Interview With Ron Paul

WASHINGTON - Dr. Ron Paul, a Republican congressional candidate from
Texas, wrote in his political newsletter in 1992 that 95 percent of the black men in Washington, D.C., are "semi-criminal or entirely criminal."

He also wrote that black teenagers can be "unbelievably fleet of foot."

....

In the interview, he did not deny he made the statement about the swiftness of black men.

"If you try to catch someone that has stolen a purse from you, there is no chance to catch them," Dr. Paul said.

No he's pretty much a legit racist. I have always found that people who think that Ron Paul is awesome simply found a few things they liked and are either unaware or choosing to ignore the "crazy old man" parts of him.

"Given the inefficiencies of what DC laughingly calls the criminal justice system, I think we can safely assume that 95 percent of the black males in that city are semi-criminal or entirely criminal"

The 95 percent came from a criminal justice think tank report. Do you know that its true or not before you commented? Also, its sounds more like a jab at the criminal justice system...like he's saying its unfair maybe? They arrest to many black males maybe?

Reminds me of the time I got called a racists for quoting a cnn article, something like "Fully 96 percent of black voters supported Obama". and asked the question if they voted based on color or political views?

There's a difference when quoting a "think tank" which obviously combines and distorts data to convey a propagandized thought, and researchable statistics from the US Treasury. Unless you think every single person, thing and organization under the government is out to get you and never tells the public a single truth, and there's nothing anyone can say or do around here to fix that kind of phobia. Besides, to cut through that distortion from a "criminal justice think tank" requires a real, honest look into other problems in our country surrounding our prison system and how generations of people tend to react when born and raised in a perpetual cycle of poverty and that would be severely off topic.

That's because much of the opposition thinks that without the black vote Obama wouldn't have won in 2008 and that's clearly not the case.

When you look at the full exit polls and break down the numbers to show just how many people that 95% truly stands for, we discover that it roughly represents 9.6 Million people out of 125+ Million people who voted. Also, considering that Obama won over the majority of every minority group by at least a 30 point margin (Black, Latino, Asian, Other) to try and target one group in particular and hold them accountable for the election of a president is nothing more than racially charged disingenuousness. Besides, it's not as if McCain ran away with the white vote anyhow with only 55% of it. It's clear that some people (including the 43% of white people who voted for Obama in 2008) may have been swayed partially to vote for Obama due to his skin color for obvious historical reasons (first black president, hello!). However, to assume that this could be the primary reason for most people is also disingenuous since there was a time that Jesse Jackson tried to run in a presidential primary in 1984 and he lost miserably. Also, Herman Cain is running this year under the Republican ticket and I'm sure he won't get far as well.

Of course, this is just a theory being generated using researchable historical references and readily available exit data. If someone still wants to staunchly believe that the only reason Obama made it to the White House was because of black people voting for him then there's really nothing anyone can say or do in order to change that. However, it is a shame that after three years some people are still trying to propose pseudo-moralistic, yet socially divisive excuses as to how the president won the election. Obama won and McCain lost. He won the popular and electoral college vote so it is decisive and without any real controversy. We should be past this by now, especially since the next election is right around the corner. But again, whatever...

Hey... market fall of 4.5% in the US and 3.5 in the UK. So is that because of the failure to resolve the US budget problem, or the failure to solve the EU debt problem ....or ..... BOTH TOGETHER! BBC man says real concern that we are about to face another crisis ala 2007 and I guess he means both in scale and in bank failures. I would guess there is a real danger of markets getting to the point they refuse to lend to governments - any governments- as matters get worse.

This is the background in front of which US politicians are wandering around in the belief they are still the gods of the earth who can do no wrong.

You must not be 'ohwiseone' if you have your 401k in stocks. It should be been crystal clear in 2008 who runs this world. Who says when the market will go up and who says when the market will tank. And it ain't you.
