I was inspired by the "Is masturbation a bad thing for single men?" thread but thought this was different enough to merit it's own thread.

My own personal experience is that I can only cum by stimulating myself with my hand. I've achieved orgasm maybe twice by fucking someone and never by getting my dicked sucked (it always ends up with me just masturbating into their mouth).

I've read a couple articles about men becoming so accustomed to the stimulation of their hand that nothing else works (to achieve orgasm).

Now in my mid-forties my dick doesn't stay hard long enough to be a top so I'm a total bottom. It's not much of a bother for me since my partner is a total top. And even when my dick is was better working order, I only fucked guys to get them off... it was always for their pleasure, not mine.

I've noticed a lot of gay porn where guys fuck and suck but in the end they lay side by side and jack off. It makes me wonder if this is more common than I think.

How about you guys. Has your hand limited your sexual function?

Not Yet!!!!! I sincerely hope that my hand and/or hands never limit my sexual function.

You did not state anything about your physical health. A healthy body can usually react to sexual stimulation and maintain a decent erection. Here I am age 68 and everything still works quite well. Admittedly I am no longer a rock hard teen ager with my erections, but things still perform quite well.

I would urge you to read my recent Blot about Penis Health:

By each supporting each other, and offering our life experiences we can certainly be a support group.

I'm not sure if "too much" masturbating makes us dependent upon it for orgasmic release but I do think sometimes the firmness of my stroke has affected whether or not I'll orgasm with my partner. If we use a light stroke sometimes, or lube, that more closely resembles the sensation of vaginal intercourse. Makes things more transferable to that situation. But sometimes the point of a quickie jack session is to get off....and at those times I'll still revert to a firmer grip.

I am very healthy. I have never smoked. I drink a little (mostly wine). Generally good diet but not obsessive about it. Maybe about 10 pounds overweight. Around the time I turned 40 I started noticing a definite decrease in libido and sexual function. There appears to be no medical cause (at least nothing obvious to my doctor). In addition to my age, my personal life causes me definite stress which I think is the greatest challenge. I can't really go into detail but it's nothing that has a simple fix (and it's not something caused by my partner or family).

But I didn't start this thread to talk about my situation. I was more interested in knowing if people had any experience with becoming dependent on manual stimulation from their hand.

I agree and I think this is the real point, rather than frequency of masturbation.
I've experienced this a little myself, as since I first started masturbating I used a very tight grip and I believe I was a little desensitized when I first started having intercourse. It didn't take long to resensitize myself and break from the habit, but it did require some effort.
