Please forgive me if this has already been discussed, but doesn't Camp live in that home with other people? I'm sure he's the most well-known, in certain circles, but why is he so sure that he specifically was the target?
Yes, ten people to be exact along with an 11 year old. Go back a couple of pages I put the link to the article from the local news. Another thing is how come none of the other residents of this place are saying anything regarding the fire. Matthew Camp keeps saying he lost everything, what about everyone else who lived there, talk about making it all about him and no one else.

This dude is off the rails rn lol he’s literally throwing a tantrum because news articles aren’t saying this was an attack and instead focusing on the facts? What a pitiful biotch
Where are these? I'm not gonna scroll through twitter responses as most are the "pick me" folk

Guys, whether or not it was a hate crime a) doesn't really matter, a crime was committed and people could have died and b) is a natural conclusion. A few months after I came out my house was egged and dead frogs were put in my mailbox. My mother called the school (I was still in high school at the time) because she thought I might be getting targeted for being an out gay man. The house was egged one more time and then nothing else happened. It was probably some nasty neighborhood kids who picked a house and egged it a couple times, nothing more nothing less. Cops found nothing, school found nothing. Didn't stop my mom from being afraid and didn't stop me from, briefly, thinking it. When a crime is committed against a gay person, a person of color, a disabled person, a woman etc it's hard *not* to think about the possibility that it was motivated by hatred. Naturally being so well known doesn't help either. It's only natural to see a hate crime even if it wasn't one.

Yes, you are correct a crime was committed and lives could’ve been lost but the issue is that there are also ten other residents in the house along with a kid, anyone of the other residents could be a target. Matthew Camp has made the focus all about him, turned it into a hate crime and doesn’t seem to give a shit about anyone else who lived at the home. The house is famous and well known, it was built in the late 1890’s I believe and it draws a crowd due to its history of its previous owner.

I don't think anyone has said no crime was committed. This issue is his open demand for drawing conclusions without evidence.

His words would lead me to question whether he knows more than he's saying. Did he make an enemy with someone/people in the neighborhood? Even if he's innocent we can't assume that he is. Everything relevant must be looked at to draw a factual conclusion.

I'm actually a gay person of color and I don't automatically assume something done to me is because I'm a gay hispanic man. Something has to actually lead me to believe it was a hate crime (ex: actual threats in that nature, words.)

I had my car vandalized once while at a gay club. 2 tires were deflated and "gay" was keyed on the passenger side. I didn't automatically assume it was a gay crime. All I thought was that they were pieces of shit.

Come to find out, it was an ex that had seen me at the club with another guy and he did this because I wasn't begging for him. I stay level headed in all situations. I don't assume

Haha. I knew it would only be a matter of time before a certain someone would get banned. Their behavior reminded me of another member who got banned.

Miserable souls just want to argue. Meh.
I don't know who you're referring to, but arguing for the sake of arguing is bad mmmkay.

Some people remind me of Meghan McCain on the view. Whenever they ask her if she wants to voice her opinion first, she prefers to skip. She always waits to hear someone else's opinion so she can rudely disagree and argue it.

To sum that up, some people don't have their opinions. They just want to argue against yours. Best to ignore them

Lmao I thought the same when I read it. Why not just "Matthew Camp." What's with the onesie thing?

Not to mention sexualizing what is basically a child’s garment and all in the midst of discussing the potential murder and hate crimes directed at a sex workers (his own words) seems exceptionally disturbing.

To be fair, it sounds like the place that Matthew and those other people lived in seemed to be some kind of... gay haven? At least that's the vibe I got from the NYT article. I do agree that the way he's acting is a bit presumptuous, but he's probably in shock. He lost tons of valuable possessions and potentially could've lost his life. But ultimately, yes, we should wait for all the facts to come out before we label this a hate crime.

That's what it seems like this person was all about.

Well that fact that everything he owned burned up in a fire, he barely escaped with his life, his home doesn’t exist anymore and no one knows where he might even be living and he fears for his safety and life might just be why.
