He won a single gold medal in the 10m platform dive event. He was the only Australian to win a gold at Beijing and was named Australian GQ's "Athlete of the Year." The Advocate opines that the lack of lucrative endorsements is directly related to his status as an "out" athlete. (Which may be why fellow Australian former Olympian Ian Thorpe continues to deny he's gay despite a heap of evidence to the contrary.)

hmm. well those performance results are irrefutable and an amazing accomplishment.
i would think he would have his pick of endorsements. he has GOT to get a better agent and manager.
that would be truly a shame if his personal sexual orientation would negate such remarkable, professional acheivement.

It's a shame he hasn't gotten any contracts. I agree with goodwood, though: He needs to get better representation. Gay or not, if he hasn't gotten any endorsements by now - hell, if he hasn't even been in the Advocate until now - he needs to fire whoever is representing him.

He's been on the cover of gay magazines earlier.

He spoke out against the Australian government and their position on gays being able to marry.

He's not going away though. He's beloved, so sooner or later the companies are going to have to endorse him. He's a major money maker. Doesn't hurt that he's seriously hot. Phelps is not attractive at all, but I know the interest right now is in his wins, but they did try to use the sex appeal angle before he won.

He is truely stuning in every way. His looks, poise, natural artistic abilities, obviously very dedicated to his sport and a perfectionist. Ir would be great to be great to at the waterside seeing this very talanted you guy in flight. He will go far there is no doubt about that
