Everyone knows we need some for of health care reform. I have been in touch with my representatives, but the issue is far too complicated to cover in an email. Frankly I don't feel even fully informed about all the possibilities (that should be) on the table. In the past most paid cash for doctor care as needed. That model worked for a long time. As Flash points out, we cannot afford premiums for all, at the current cost of care. Medicare underpays the true cost of hospital care, consequently private insurance overpays. Where is the middle ground? The Swiss model seems attractive (mandatory risk adjusted coverage, with public subsidization for those who need it via private plans), but I have not seen, or heard anything on the national level that both addresses (affordable) premiums and coverage for all that meets with agreement from policy makers and providers on it's viability and fairness. Anyone know better?
