It's just starting to break, but the same folks (National Enquirer) that brought you the Edward's affair are about to run a story on an affair Palin had with her husband's business partner.

McCain lawyers have now threatened legal action (that won't do any good). If the Enquirer has the goods, this is over.

McCain, are you SURE you vetted this chick???? LOL

STOP THE PRESSES!!!

Guess who was caught dissing Palin on a live feed!

Oh this is rich! After writing a great piece in defense of Palin in The Wall Street Journal, Peggy Noonan, the brilliant speechwriter who made Reagan, The Great Communicator, is caught saying what she really thinks of her.

Noonan in print:

Because she jumbles up so many cultural categories, because she is a feminist not in the Yale Gender Studies sense but the How Do I Reload This Thang way, because she is a woman who in style, history, moxie and femininity is exactly like a normal American feminist and not an Abstract Theory feminist; because she wears makeup and heels and eats mooseburgers and is Alaska Tough, as Time magazine put it; because she is conservative, and pro-2nd Amendment and pro-life; and because conservatives can smell this sort of thing -- who is really one of them and who is not -- and will fight to the death for one of their beleaguered own; because of all of this she is a real and present danger to the American left, and to the Obama candidacy.

I'll tell you how powerful Mrs. Palin already is: she reignited the culture wars just by showing up. She scrambled the battle lines, too. The crustiest old Republican men are shouting "Sexism!" when she's slammed. Pro-woman Democrats are saying she must be a bad mother to be all ambitious with kids in the house. Great respect goes to Barack Obama not only for saying criticism of candidates' children is out of bounds in political campaigns, but for making it personal, and therefore believable. "My mother had me when she was eighteen…" That was the lovely sound of class in American politics.
Noonan on air:

Wall Street Journal columnist and former Reagan speechwriter Peggy Noonan and former John McCain adviser, Time columnist, and MSNBC contributor Mike Murphy were caught on tape disparaging John McCain's selection of Alaska Governor Sarah Palin as his Vice Presidential running mate.

"It's over," Noonan said.

When Chuck Todd asked her if this was the most qualified woman the Republicans could nominate, Noonan responded, "The most qualified? No. I think they went for this, excuse me, political bullshit about narratives. Every time the Republicans do that, because that's not where they live and that's not what they're good at, they blow it."

Murphy characterized the choices as "cynical" and "gimmicky.":

Chuck Todd: Mike Murphy, lots of free advice, we'll see if Steve Schmidt and the boys were watching. We'll find out on your blackberry. Tonight voters will get their chance to hear from Sarah Palin and she will get the chance to show voters she's the right woman for the job Up next, one man who's already convinced and he'll us why Gov. Jon Huntsman. (cut away)

Peggy Noonan: Yeah.

Mike Murphy: You know, because I come out of the blue swing state governor world: Engler, Whitman, Tommy Thompson, Mitt Romney, Jeb Bush. I mean, these guys -- this is how you win a Texas race, just run it up. And it's not gonna work. And --

PN: It's over.

MM: Still McCain can give a version of the Lieberman speech to do himself some good.

CT: I also think the Palin pick is insulting to Kay Bailey Hutchinson, too.

PN: Saw Kay this morning.

CT: Yeah, she's never looked comfortable about this --

MM: They're all bummed out.

CT: Yeah, I mean is she really the most qualified woman they could have turned to?

PN: The most qualified? No! I think they went for this -- excuse me-- political bullshit about narratives --

CT: Yeah they went to a narrative.

MM: I totally agree.

PN: Every time the Republicans do that, because that's not where they live and it's not what they're good at, they blow it.

MM: You know what's really the worst thing about it? The greatness of McCain is no cynicism, and this is cynical.

CT: This is cynical, and as you called it, gimmicky.

MM: Yeah.

Hillarious. Is this like Jessie Jackson's off-mike comment about busting Obama's balls? I would love to think voters can see the sham in her candidacy but you can never underestimate the ability of the US electorate to acquire, process and understand information.

This is part of an email I've only just received from my cousin. Pretty much sums things up for me too:

Well, my dear, you can imagine what my thoughts are! Last night nearly did me in. Sarah Palin is a very appealing person, superficially speaking. But she knows nothing beyond her own borders and should stay up there where she can get away with being ordinary. I have worked all my adult life for womens' rights - to have this upstart stirring things up to make a case that might set us back generations is very upsetting. Her stance on gay rights isn't any better. Everything that I hold dear she rejects and does so without much thought or understanding. Her willingness to be an attack dog with lies and ridicule is beyond political correctness. And her willingness to parade her pregnant daughter through all of this is muck is indicative of a person who doesn't get it. I can't imagine how difficult this must be for that poor teenager nor the mixed message it sends to kids and their families: that it's important to teach abstinence but to forbid sex education! How ridiculous is that? The notion that the only service to country involves military, that the only heros are those who are willing to die for a false "cause", that the moment of conception proves personhood which can't be denied yet that killing thousands of innocent Iraqi and Afghani women and children is okay....well, nothing computes. God bless America!! I'm appalled. I've been working for the Obama campaign up here in New Hampshire and have been told that we must stick to the issues. Obama will fire any of his paid people if they discuss Palin and/or her family and dismiss any volunteers who refuse to comply. But now he's on the defensive and must respond to the attacks......it's not pretty. So that's where I stand!!!
