I just got my medical marijuana card! I havent smoked pot since highschool, about 10 years. Im kind of nervious about it but supposebly its really good for alot of different things. Its more or less a trial and error, if it doesnt work for me in a positive way, i wont continue. Im going to treat it like any of medication which i already take many for mood etc. This should be interesting.

I suffer from something called Gastroparesis or Digestive Tarct Paralysis. It means I am nauseated 24/7, can eat very little, have lost 45 pounds in 5 years not on purpose. I take I take 13 pills a day. I vomit every morning. I have a prescription to Marinol but it doesn't work. The only medication(and yes, I consider weed a medication for me) that relieves my symptoms is Marijuana. Luckily I live in a medical marijuana state. Without marijuana I would have a feeding tube by now due to not being able to eat. I work a professional job monday through friday. I DO NO EAT DURING THE DAY, because I have no idea how food will effect me on any given day. I am never hungry. I use a small amount of marijuana at night, after work, when I'm home and wonder of wonders, the nausea goes away, I get hungry and am able to eat a small amount of food.

My daughter has urged me to try medical marijuana for my cancer. I'm not sure what good it would do at this point, since I've already had chemo, radiation, and a recent follow-up surgery to take out half my neck. Plus I can't swallow and am on a feeding tube, so I'm not looking to increase my appetite at the moment. Also not sure medical marijuana is legal in my state.

But for those who could make legitimate use of it, I think it should definitely be available.

I watched this about 3 years ago:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hpVNtCyj2TY&feature=youtu.be

2-1/2 weeks ago my dog was diagnosed with stage 3 B cell type lymphoma. Our vet highly recommended she go through aggressive chemo right now and maybe she'll last a year before totally succumbing to the cancer.

Because my wife and I each have a medical marijuana card, and because of that video I linked to, we've opted not to go the chemo route and decided to get our dog a local version of "Phoenix Tears". Several dispensaries in Colorado now carry different versions of this. I'm sure it's illegal somewhere in the books to give your dog marijuana, but if she's going to die anyway, she might as well die stoned rather than suffer.

At any rate, her tumors have gone down but I won't jump for joy until our next visit to the vet this Wednesday. So far, I'm floored by how well she's doing. Her appetite is phenomenal and she's getting lots of sleep.

My wife's also taking this stuff for her colitis, and it's definitely making a big difference.

If anyone wants to research Phoenix Tears, it's also called RSO (Rick Simpson Oil). The science behind it is legit, unpatentable, and very available. One pound of pot (the whole plant, not just the bud) yields about 2 ounces of oil which is almost what you need to supposedly kick the cancer.

hmmnmm.."The issue is social acceptance.."..? hunh?! Whhaat you say?..
The ONE big "issue" IS "PUBLIC HEALTH"!! The current social/legal experiments in Colorado and Washington will provide enough data over time, for analysis pro & con.
With the current slant towards privatizing public institutions and medicalizing normal human bodily functions, It seems that the big Pharmaceutical Industrial Complex, (the 2nd largest industry in America behind Big Oil), which spends more money on advertising than it does on research, is in cahoots with the Health Insurance Industry and "Disease Management Industry" in a very successful and lucrative venture to make money off of diseases, while fabricating medical conditions and providing expensive medications to treat them .
THE FDA, Federal Drug Administration is, like the Federal Reserve Board, are administered by the very industries they are supposed to be regulating. The Banking industry controls the federal reserve and the pharmaceutical industry controls the FDA.
With the, "Everything is about money" crowd led by bankers and lawyers, pushing the business tax revenue argument, and the "legalize it/decriminalize it"" crowd led by entrepreneurs and venture capitalist, pushing the '..Alcohol and Cigarettes are legal" argument, and the 'Socially Conscience' crowd led by Progressive Social Democrat types, decrying, "The War on Drugs is a Failure";
NOT ONE OF THESE ARGUMENTS MENTIONS PUBLIC HEALTH
Today in the USA, Obesity, Diabetes and Prescribed Medication Abuse are all considered to be festering into epidemic proportions within the next 25 years or so.Now add to these, the side effects and symptoms of marijuana use and addiction and then talk to me about "The issue is social acceptance"

The movement is an excuse to legitimize a lousy lifestyle. Can it make people in pain feel better? sure, but so would doping up on morphine.

exactly
the reason why i personally advocate for its medicinal use
never use it myself, but would certainly try it if ever i needed to
Fn arseholes who deny people the use of this, the supposed professionals and there research..same ole...works for some/perhaps not for others, decent monitoring would ensure its not abused

Govts Au/NZ are OK in allowing the so called Methadone programs to take place legally, and who is making money from that.. its being abused as well, but a little bit better for those who genuinely want to rid themselves of the drug habit ..

Matt, please do more research... and keep an open mind.

About 10 years ago... at the age of 36, I had my first heart attack. One week after leaving the hospital, I had another. Then another... and another. Each time requiring multiple day hospital stays. I remember when my cardiologist stopped in her tracks and let out an audible "wow" when see saw my heart enzyme level after one of my attacks. That told me how serious it was.

I was finally diagnosed with Prinzmetal Angina... basically an involuntary spasm in the arteries of the heart and put on a ton of medication... the episodes were reduced, but not eliminated (I think I had 2 or 3 more heart attacks while on my meds). The only recommendation was to increase my dosage or medication (which made me tired, dizzy, and sick to my stomach).

As you can imagine my medical bills were enormous -- a stay in a cardiac care unit was upwards of $15,000 to $20,000 a day.

During this time I was doing as much research as I could and discovered a study on marijuana's effect on arteries and specifically it's ability to regulate spasms. I was first hesitant, but gave it a go... immediately I felt a difference and have significantly reduced all my meds and completely eliminated the majority of them. I have had zero heart issues -no attacks, no discomfort, nothing- since. That was 8 years ago.

Marijuana is an amazing plant that we need to study and exploit for everyone's benefit.

well what makes a good lifestyle? Arnold Schwartzegger would use pot after his workouts.

Ive seen successful people use pot and they are doing great. I think recreational use like people do with alcohol should be legal, just dont over do it unless you want to be spicoli from fast times at ridgemont high.

I take morphine once a day. It does surprisingly little for me.

also with all respect to Morphine users
for those who are convinced the use of Morphine is a/the only method for pain relief
with my limited experience (15 years ago Drug and Alcohol counselor so may be no validity in what is espoused now?) haven't kept up with the play!

i feel with the older generations perhaps it was, but why should the younger generations be denied access to a possible workable alternative
the problem i have with Morphine use, is the 'increase the dose' regime they apply, eventually leading to a form of medically induced euthanasia, legally/illegally its often accepted as such
relief of pain, not expectations of a cure, is whats of prime importance with both surely?

:biggrin1:yeah we'll ok; lol.. 20 years from now tell us about the long term effects of your alternative. As for the older generation, you speak of, many "patients" are members of that generation who were labelled "stoners" when they were young and ripe like you. Some of them have chose to use Marijuana as an alternative medicine; even though when they were young like you they chose to use Marijuana as an alternative to whatever, whenever it suited them. As for your counseling experience and the treatment of "pain" and your reference to the mind's tolerance level; surely you must know too much of any substance is abuse. When "medicine" is taken for ailments it was not prescribed for, that is also abuse.
Unless, of course, the medicine is prescribed to reduce pain, anxiety, which are "phenomenological". Let me guess; you and a doctor friend are partners. You refer patients to him so they can get a marijuana card and you get a cut out of the fee

Someone posted early-on in this thread about the possibility of contractin lung cancer from smoking pot.
The truth of the matter is...there hasn't been a single documented case of marijuana-caused lung cancer on record...ANYWHERE! If there was, big-pharma and the liquor industry would be all over it, exploiting that first documented case in an effort to gain new customers.
Now that medical studies are actually being conducted in states where it is medically legal, it appears marijuana is actually MORE beneficial in treating leukemia and other cancers. It is also being shown to be a better pain-controlling substance than most high-priced pharmaceuticals currently on the market. As more studies are conducted, the benefits of decriminalizing pot are becoming more apparent.
Law enforcement is only against decriminalization because the bulk of their yearly budgets are based on arresting as many potheads as possible in the FAILED war on drugs. If pot becomes legal, their budgets will be SLASHED! Just imagine, your local sheriff's department won't get the funding for that late-model tank they need for making drug-raids at the local grow houses. Holy shit, what will the militarized SWAT teams do when funding for their militarized weapons purchases are slashed. Now they won't be able to afford futuristic body armor and weapons of mass destruction, even though Joe pot grower doesn't even own a gun! There go the plans for the newest spy-drones with heat-seeking Hellfire missile capability...DAMN!!!

Morphine is also a drug well tolerated by the body. As i recall, drug use in the Uk was regulated because of wars where so many people had become junkies because of injuries and stress. Before that it wasnt an issue. Famously the british sought to destabilise china by pushing opium there, but the real effects of drugs on society have as much to do with responsible regulated supply - not pushing it but also not prohibition.

The real drug scandal of current times is misuse of antibiotics, which is undeniably killing thousands soon to be rising to millions. This has been going on all my lifetime because companies have sought to make money from their patented medicines rather than use them responsibly for the greater good. And yes, getting anything non-patentable banned is part of that.

As for your counseling experience and the treatment of "pain" and your reference to the mind's tolerance level; surely you must know too much of any substance is abuse.
So why arent we doing something about the real killer in western society? too much food?

He'll, if pot were legal, I woulda never got busted. Shiieeeit. I wasn't really gonna shoot nobody he'll.
Thats exactly right. Its only a crime because someone didnt like people enjoying smoking pot. gangsterism only entered the scene because it was made a crime rather than a normal commercial enterprise. no one in the US remember prohibition and what a disaster that was?
