Funding 'Medicare-for-all' with taxes on the rich 'impossible,' study says

This issue is a loser for the Democrats and will alienate their most loyal base, public sector unions. However Trump probably won’t exploit it correctly ( if he even runs again.)

What type tax do you libs want, a big 25% payroll tax or a 35% VAT?
Trump is so damaged he can't exploit it now, good news for the USA. We'll have to settle for him just yelling at reporters until November 2020. He still thinks that's effective.

A national sales tax or consumption tax would fix everything. Even drug dealers and families like the Trumps would pay their fair share of taxes based on purchasing.

How is it a fair share? The poor spend a higher percentage of their income than the rich.

How would you fund it? There aren’t enough rich to pay for it, that is evident.

OTOH can you imagine the howling when the teachers unions have to jettison their virtually free health care and face a 25% VAT or a 35% payroll tax? Ouch.

I wonder when a conservative will talk about "funding problems" for the relentless rounds of tax cuts they've been doing for 30 yrs and have left the country in a mountain of debt. Where's that thread?

Sanders, for one, has never said so. In his plan, everyone pays more in taxes--but the middle class, at least, still ends up ahead financially by not having to pay for health insurance. Plus people no longer have to worry about unexpected, catastrophic medical expenses that can wipe out the uninsured and even the insured.

Teacher's do not have free healthcare. They pay a premium and the subsidy is in lieu of higher pay. Still, a VAT is not going to be acceptable, neither is a high income tax increase. The funding problems for this have been evident for some time. Vermont is supposed to do their own version and the inability to fund it is killing it - this is Bernie's home state, so yes, an immediate Medicare for all is a loser - period, end of story. This will give a boost to Biden but may really be the boost Mayor Pete needs to move up the ladder. A public option that over time attracts more willing people will be the only thing that can work.
