A) it helped California's economy
B) it was 'mostly' her money
C) Who the fuck cares?

That is what scares me-IT IS HER PERSONAL MONEY!

Meg Whitman is a former CEO of E-Bay, and since E-Bay does not choose it's CEO's the same way Alaska chooses her Governors, I assume that she has some gray matter in her head.

Which leads me to question: what sane person would spend so much of their own hard-earned money if they were not hoping for a better return on their investment? Don't give me BS about her desire to serve California-she has to be getting something big out of being Governor otherwise she would not be spending so much to win.

Same thing every other political candidate wants. Only, she has the $. It's very simple but your bias distorts your comprehension. You really believe that if Jerry Brown had the funds, he wouldn't use them?

Both shit candidates. We are getting fucked, regardless of who is picked. Arnold is better than both of them by a good margin. He knows how to make this work but is getting blasted because he's the easiest target. Just as Obama and co. are getting shit for being in the right place at the wrong time, so Arnold is getting flak. The problem is the legislature. On both sides. One man can't fix a dysfunctional government. Expect the same old thing next year.

Unfortunately California is not Ebay. Nor is it run like Ebay. I think it's erroneous to entrust our govenment to big business interests like her who will give away the store to her cronies and corporate interests.

Do we really have such a short memory that we've all forgotten that these same people like Meg Whittman have drove us over the cliff to the worst recession and near depression our country has ever faced since the 1930's by systematically eliminating the regulations to keep their greed in check? Are people really that gullible into thinking these big business type are the panacea to our recovery. They are the problem.

It will be a really sad day when California has a $119 Million "Buy Now" button.

Red Dude, do not kill yourself. Help us defeat her by contacting your nearest Demo office or go online to CaDem.org to find out where you can help , even if it is only one hour a week. We can defeat this horrible woman, but we MUST work together to drop the proverbial house on her on Nov. 2. , but Carly Fiorina DOES look more like Margaret Hamilton in the Wizard of Oz, though.........

Just joking about the suicide, cruz. Have already signed up to help out Brown's campaign. Am going to follow up on an email exchange with someone in the D.C. office to try to get assigned to something specific.

California is a mess. If Meg Whitman could pull the state out of the ditch, I would be shocked.

You know, normally, I'm all for super rich candidates running for office- my hope is usually that their independent wealth partially insulates them from personal corruption.
Epic mistake in judgment... A person having massive wealth is an unmistakable indication that they are a egomaniacal SOB who will stop at nothing to get their way.

btw... I'm of the opinion that nothing will get fixed in CA until there is a constitutional convention, and the state's very system of government is rebuild from the ground up.

This. There is currently an initiative on the November ballot to lower the threshold for passing a budget from the ridiculously high 2/3 to 50%+1. That's good, except for the threshold for raising taxes will still be 2/3. I think it should be 50%+1. If they raise your taxes too much- throw them out- either in the next election or in a recall. Jesus- if the situations were reversed (ie, the GOP controlled 60% of the seats in the Legislature), and the Democrats were holding the budget hostage, the Republicans would be screaming bloody murder, vomiting phrases like "obstructionism", et al. It's fucking ridiculous. They HAVE to reform (if not get rid of) Prop 13....some people are still paying property taxes based on their 1978 assessments. Fucking ridiculous.

Another good step would be to require that any initiatives that would cost money be required to identify where the revenue would come from, or which programs would be cut to pay for them. And requiring that citizen-led constitutional amendments garner a supermajority (55%, 60%, whatever) of the electorate to pass. Anybody else think it's fucking ridiculous that we have to have a 2/3 vote to raise taxes, but only 50%+1 to amend the state governing document? The state GOP is all too happy to claim the mantle of majority rules when they want to take away marriage rights from homosexual couples, but scream bloody murder if you even so much as suggest they use the same principle for taxes.

My partner is still in shock at what Prop 13 did to California's schools. He grew up in the Little Switzerland part of the state (Owens Valley), and even in that remote area they had first-rate teachers and abundant funds for equipment, materials and field trips. The whole state led the nation in education: primary, secondary and post-secondary. Then Prop 13 came along and gutted it, and now they're what, 47th in secondary education rankings? Disgraceful. It should have been thought out much better at the time. I don't think either Whitman or Brown has a plan to address this.

Based on what I see in candidates California is in trouble no matter which way it votes. Meg is a real interesting case. She is trying to see how much it takes to "buy" a State.

The really sad part of this is actually the most important part to consider.

Anyone contemplating voting for her needs to ask themselves the question:

"What is she going to get for her hundred million?"

Nobody with half a brain in business spends this kind of money unless they can see a way to get a major return on their investment.

I see the already bad economy of California getting far worse no matter who or whom is elected. In order to keep the State solvent at all, major tax increases are coming. There is no alternative and those living there are going to see a mass exodus of businesses and people.

The cost of living index in California is not the highest in the Nation, but after the new Governor is elected it may either take the number one spot, or, move close to the top of that heap.

Fuel and energy costs are one of the things bankrupting Californians.

Gerry Brown's first time as Governor was not stellar. There were many who came after him who were however far worse.

The removal of Governor Elect Gray Davis was one of the biggest errors that the Republicans ever made. They did it, they put in Arnold trying to get a party "yes man" and it didn't happen.

I can guarantee you that if Gerry Brown is elected, Daryl Issa will have a recall started to remove him and place in another Republican "schill" by the time that Brown takes office. The California Voters fell for this one time. Let's see if they are stupid enough to go down for two!

After all, the few Extremist Republicans in California have learned. "If we don't like it or we get a Democrat, we can take the will away from the people and cancel out an election whenever we want to by a recall." Extremist Tea Party Chapters are going to guarantee that this will at least be tried.
