Memorial Day (US)

Anybody have any plans? I WAS planning on going to the beach, but it seems like I've come down with a minor cold. :frown1:

I live one block from the Golden Gate National Cemetery and might drive thru to see flags on all the graves. It's a reminder that freedom is not free.

Every year on Memorial Day I make donations in my mother, father and brother's name to 3 different organizations. I also made fried chicken, potato salad, baked beans and watermelon and mint and will go to Central Park for a picnic with friends. Later we all come back here for homemade ice cream and angel food cake with blueberries.

Memorial Day is observed to remember the soldiers, sailors, marines, and airmen (and women) who have fought for the US, and is especially celebrated for those who have given the ultimate sacrifice- their lives.

It's 99 deg F here. So I'm staying inside and planning my 4th of July when I'll be in Amsterdam!....although I'll go for a run this evening when it cools off to 94.

I was about to bump this thread yesterday when all the brouhaha happened with the site.
So I've taken care of my donations this year and I just finished making a cherry pie and homemade ice cream. I'm making fried chicken and potato salad and watermelon and blueberries and baked beans for tomorrow. I've been thinking about all the people I miss and am grateful for their presence in my life who helped me become the person I am.
I was at the Metropolitan Museum yesterday and something happened that reminded me of Jason_Els and it made me smile.

I'm working all weekend, which actually isn't so bad as it is the best time this month for me to earn money.

I was invited to a pool party which I had every intention of attending until a friend's partner was rushed by ambulance to the hospital due to pancreatic and/or kidney problems; I would up comforting him, instead.
